Hello doing a coyote swap from ground up… There’s basically no body harness wiring in the car I’m hooking the brake lights up now my thought is take one end of the pin on the brake light switch and run it 12v hot straight to the battery and the other pin run to the wiring that signals the brake lights to come on. Will this be fine to do? do I need an in-line fuse on the 12v hot side?

You need a fuse on any 12v wire running inside the car.

You should definitely run a fuse block for the accessories. You can mount it in the car or under the hood. Run battery power through a fusible link to the fuse block then run any circuits you need from the fuse block. Use fuse sizes that are rated to protect whatever the smallest gauge wiring is on the circuit(s)
