Ok, my car (95) came out of gear, rolled out of the drive and took out a neighbors mail box. It totaled the box and my trunk lid/wing.

I have replaced the trunk lid and now I cant get the brake lights to work. I plugged in the harness and all the lights work correctly (they come on) and when I turn on my head lights the tail lights come on but no brake lights. Also the 3rd eye dont work.

Tomorrow I will put in the old harness and see if it will work correctly or not.

If any of you have suggestions please post up (yes I checked the fuses)

but did you replace the bulbs?
i know i know the 3rd brake light is out but..

the third brake light could have been out before all this..
the bulbs have two different filements inside.. one for parking lights and 1 for braking.
otherwise brake light pedal switch,, or the bulb socket itself.
it would have blown a fuse if a wire was shorting out..
are the wires before both sides of the plug connection the same amount and colors??

check the stupid things.

yeah i would check the brake light switch.... try moving the switch into position with your finger without the car running and see if you got power since the lights are always hot... it'd be like a $5 repair this way

good luck!

brake light switch? Where is that located? I am going to place the old harness in it when I get home tomorrow ( Sat) and will see if that resolves it. I will also pull the lights out and check the filliments I did not think of that

ok, I checked the other harness and then realized that the harness has nothing to do with it.

because this has to be in the brake system somewhere now. I checked the bulbs and they look fine. I could not see a place to even say that the 2nd filament was damaged.

the fuses are still good too so I have to be missing something here.

When I first installed the new harness the lights worked and then 10 min later they dont. I hope I didnt fry something

you need to unplug the harness again and attach a test light while someone else steps on the brakes, start probing wires until you find power, when you do
repeatedly step on and off the brake and the test light should do the same.
make sure you got a good grounding point for your test light...

Yeah, well I unplugged the harness alright and then tried to test the brake lights. Forgot to plug the damn thing back in before I shut the trunk though........

4 days with no trunk access I finally went through the back seat (convertible) and plugged it back in. Popped the trunk and found out that the brake switch from under the dash was blown out.

Brakes work
Trunk works
I really need to change the lock out now

pissed for 4 days though.....

Thanks for all the help.
