I've read around here for a while and I cannot seem to find a definitive answer. My 67 Stang has 4 wheel manual drum brakes. My goal is to upgrade to power front disc/rear drum.......my budget however doesn't allow me to do this now, at least not all at once.

I can afford to upgrade to front disc brakes, but it is my understanding that I'll need a new master cylinder? I already have a dual reservoir master cylinder on it, do I need one that has additional capacity? Also, if I do have to get a new master cylinder for disc brakes, will I have to buy yet another one when I add the power booster at a later point in time? I need to do something soon, those 4 wheel drum brakes aren't safe enough for a fully restored 67 convertible. If I had to do some sort of emergency braking, I'd be screwed......I don't think I can press on the pedal hard enough to lock them up.

As I understand, it's not even worth it to upgrade to power brakes and leave it at 4 wheel drum?

One last question, does anyone know of a kit that will allow me to keep my stock 14" rims? Here's a link to my car so you can see the rims:

Thanks for any help in advance!!

Don't know what kits will work with 14's.

But I can tell you that you can keep your master cyln, but you will need to buy an adjustable proportioning valve. You should also be able to use the same master cylinder with manual or power brakes.

Your brake pedal is another matter tho. They are different for power and manual brakes. (at least that's the case for the 69/70's).

assuming you have the V8, you can use the factory four piston calipers and rotors, you just need the brackets available from most any mustang parts supplier.

regarding the master cylinder, you need a disc/drum master cylinder with front disc brakes. power brakes use a slightly different mc as well. the difference is the depth of the hole in the piston for the push rod. the pb mc has a shallower hole.

using the factory disc brakes you should be able to keep your 14" wheels.

Gotcha. New master cylinder no matter which way I go. I'm so aggravated shopping for a brake kit. Most of the affordable ones on ebay fail to mention how big the rotors are and what size rim they will fit with. I've emailed a couple of sellers but they don't seem to know. I think it's going to be worth it to spend more money on a kit I know will fit instead of going with the cheap ebay kits.

Yes, I do have the V8......you must not have looked at my pics!!

Yep. That's how they were when I bought it, and I think I'm going to keep it that way......if at all possible. I was originally going to deck it out. I was gonna put a 4 barrel on it, cam it up, headers, exhaust, wheels/tires, etc... Then I decided I like the bone stock idea, minus modern day safety features. It will get power disc brakes and a 3 point seatbelt system for the sake of safety (for me and the car). The only other mods I will make are replacing trim pieces that are blemished (e.g. seat trim, kick panels, tail light bezels and bumpers. The bumpers look like crap. They're relatively new and starting to pit. I need to find some good quality chrome bumpers and from what I understand, they just aren't made. Someone told me to find a set of nice straight bumpers and pay to have a quality chrome job put on.

I like the stock look. That's why the center console you see in the pics is now sitting on my garage floor collecting dust.
