Brake Upgrade Question?

I was reading the crapper chronicle(5.0 Mustang) last night and came accross a steal on 13" brakes. I found a Bullitt 13" front set for $399.99. The contents of the package are listed here. Bullitt front 13" brake kit, includes 2 Bullitt brake calipers with mounting brackets, front brake pad set, 2 brake hoses, and 2 Brembo brake rotors.

A couple of questions as I'm interested in swapping out my front brakes with these. How hard is this to do? Do I need any other parts? What is the rear stock brake rotor diameter? 11"?
I've heard of clearance issues with 17" rims but I'm running 18x9 rims on the front and should have any issues.

I may also get the rear brake package that incudes the following:

Bullitt rear 11.65" brake kit, includes 2 Bullitt brake calipers, 2 caliper mounting brackets, 2 anti-moan brackets, rear brake pad set and 2 Brembo brake rotors also for $399.99


Any input would be greatly appreciated as I'm curious if anyone else is running this setup as an upgrade.

I just did the front of my '03 about two weeks ago and if you are mechanically inclined in any way it is REAL easy!

It took me about an 1 1/2 hours to do both sides with new hoses and all after I had the car up on stands including bleeding all the way around.

I am running 18x9's in the front and have no clearance problems at all.

I was also thinking about doing the backs but not until I am ready for a gear change. You have to pull the axles to change out the rear caliper brackets and the improvement on changing the rear is minimal so it really wouldn't be worth the work if you weren't already doing something with the rear end.

Also, if you aren't worried about the red calipers, you can buy a kit for under $200 that includes the rotors, brackets, and anti-moan brackets. All you have to do is reuse the stock calipers since they are the same anyway. The only issue would be the brake pads would either have to be replaced with cobra pads or the stock ones would have to be sufficiently worn to accomodate the wider rotor.

You can save $50 since you have a 99+. Get the rotors from www.tirerack.com (high quality Brembo units) $145 delivered. Then get the calipers from any Ford Motorsport dealer ($190-215 + shipping). The calipers come with pads.

Don't forget to factor in finding the brake hose bolts for the new calipers too if you are piecing the parts together. I hear Ford doesn't sell them without the hoses and I am pretty sure the stock GT bolts wouldn't work correctly (bigger orifice on the cobra/bullitt/mach1 bolts), but I could be wrong.

They fit fine. You don't need them on a 99+ car.
