Broke something important on the linkage tonight... HELP!

I was in 2nd, shifting to 3rd, and all I hear when I press the clutch in is a loud crack/pop, following after something fell off from around the firewall, and hit the underside of the car, making a startling noise.

What the crap happened?

My car is in neutral, and CAN"T be shifted.

My clutch pedal goes all the way in but nothing happens.

Did the linkage break?

I couldn't get under the car being that it is 3:00 A.M. here.

Any help will be appreciated. The crack/pop and noisy crap scared me all to death.

Looks like I will be for a while...

Thanks

Probably snapped the cable "thats my guess" buddy had a crx that did the same thing. shifted 1st to 2nd and then POW!!! loud snap and pop clutch pedal of course went in smooth but you couldnt shift. I would just get an adjustable firewall unit and install it.

Yes your cable as snapped.....get a stock Ford cable even if you buy an firewall kit, they are better than all others.

I personally like the UPR kit with the 3 settings and the firewall adjuster

also, many folks like the stock (non adjustable cables the best)....if you go that route, you will need a FWA...

Get a UPR firewall adjuster and adjustable quadrant, and then get a new stock FORD cable. Best setup there is.

Made up my mind...

Ok, here is what I am leaning towards, after the replies...

UPR Firewall Adjuster/Quadrant. http://www.uprproducts.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=226

Is this the cable you guys were talking about?

Ford Stock Clutch Cable.
Part Number 82-93 M-7553-A302

The books says it "consists of a beefed up clutch release fork & heavy duty self adjusting teflon lined cable... is this the one?

CJ's has one for $39.95, but I will check the local dealership to compare, and to ask if it is the correct non adjustable cable...

Thanks for the help.

im not sure about the cable issue, but im thinking that would be the correct one - other adjustable cables are "manually" adjustable. that is probably just jargon to let people know it will work with their stock self adjusting POS quadrant. that said, good on you for double checking. i think stock cables are more expensive than aftermarket adjustable ones....
one other thing - i think UPR sells a beefed up FWA - it is less likely to tear through the firewall and may have a better way to lock itself (so it does not un-adjust)....just thought i would toss that out there, but it is probably not a big deal (if that one does not come with a quadrant).....

good luck.
