give us an idea of how much you are looking to spend, your experience level with rebuilds, how much horsepower you are ultimately planning to make, and the condition and setup of your current motor. This info will help us help you better.

Oh sorry i imagine that might help. So Ive never rebuilt a motor but i have done motor swaps and torn parts of motors apart and fix them. As far as money goes I,m on a tight budget. But not driving the mustang I,m saving quiet a bit so i was hoping 2000$ to 3000$ would get me some where close to the 300hp mark. My car already has AC and smog delete, CIA, tri ax short shifter, king cobra clutch, full exhaust and 410 gears. The condition of the motor now is good when i bought the car the owner said he put a newer motor with 80,000 but he had no proof, so the reason for the rebuild is for my own reassurance.

Well if it was me and I wanted to find out how the engine was doing I would do a vacuum and compression check. On a stock engine with no mods a healthy engine should have at steady idle 800-1200 rpm, gauge steady its reading should be 17-22. I had on my 95 gt with 105,000 mile my vacuum gauge reading at a steady idle of 800 rpm was 17 and I did a compression check and all cylinders were at 150 psi. You said the seller told you that he put a new motor in at 80,000 mile, what is the mileage now? Do the vacuum & compression check as outlined in a repair manual and the results you get should tell you how healthy the engine is.

Yes ... See if you can build up some good pressure on all 8 holes

If 1 or 2 don't pump up very well

You gotta ask yourself

Is it rings or valves

like above ... I'd do that before rebuilding

Heck fire ... if all is OK ... You can spend more on Hot Rod Parts
