I'm going to disagree with the group. I see little evidence of "intense heat" that would make the car unrepairable. Intense heat would have destroyed the ignition wires, not soiled them. The drivetrain was probably undamaged. Remember, heat rises. The top of things, such as the roof and cowl got the worst of it. Other than possibly needing some serious cowl and dash work, it was likely an easy restoration. IIRC, some years ago Jim Smart had a Shelby convertible catch fire on the road, got burned worse than this car, and was restored. $500 would have been a steal for a 67 390 GTA convertible, even in this condition. Now, go kick yourself.

I don't look back, it's something that I did not want to get involved in. That being said, I just purchased a 69 Mach I, 351 w/Automatic that I would like to install a big block in, so now I'm searching. I know where a 67 Fairlane GT 4sp with a big block sitting in the woods next to an old house. There was a tree growing up through the middle of the car. when I stopped to ask about it, they were not very pleasant. I think I may have interrupted a Meth lab or something. There were several Dogs around, lots of woods and very secluded. She said that it was her Father's car and they were going to restore it, that was a few years ago, I drove by there about a month ago and it does have the tree cut out and a new door. I still want it.
