Burning Smell After Clutch Install

The second clutch I installed this year (Ford Heavy Duty clutch) slipped once or twice when I first installed it and had a burning smell once in a while but it has ceased after 1000mi. I think it needs some time to break in and mate with the new surface textures. If it seems fine in my opinion i'd take it past the 500mi break in period and see how it does after that. If there is something noticebly wrong like if you experience a ton of slipping or any vibrations I would stop driving it as soon as possible and look further into the situation.

Also, just a thought: ford recommends a brand new flywheel (FMS is only $90) with their clutches because they say resurfacing the flywheel could result in a texture that could wear down the clutch more rapidly. Not saying it will or to alarm you, but it's something you may want to keep in the back of your mind and keep your eye on. Did you clean your pressure plate and flywheel off with brake parts cleaner to remove any oil or dirt?

If it grabs fine i'd ride it out to the 500mi break in period. It should definatley go away after that. Mine did at least.

yeah, a little slippage is normal as the disk gasses and beds. Have dad keep the foot light on the pedal and let it break in.
