I was in San Diego a couple weeks ago and the streets there suck. I tought Tucson's potholes were bad, but man, the drainage systems there create huge dips in the road where I would bottom out on if I did more than 15mph around mission beach.

Well I was turning left out of a steep hill, I hit the drainage way concrete and I heard it pop and smack the concrete and I new right away what is was, having heard that before. This sway bar was the low end one form steeda and I think it was a ford part or stock replacement.

Strange part is that it broke at the exact same location as the last one  What's up with that?? I have a feeling, our rear suspension is so loose and shifty, the thing just bend exactly the way it not supposed to (e.i. bending about the axis perpendicular to the bolt pattern and torsion parallel to it at the same time). It sheared right behind the first bolt hole on the passenger side. It's definitely a shear failer though, there were no signs of fracture or yielding other than it's final failure point at the corner of the cross section.

Has anyone had this happen? Or more than once for that matter?

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on a new one? Brand, etc? I'm thinking of going with a REAL sway bar system in the back from MM.

i hate all the dips in san diego . doesnt really rain enough there to have real drains just those dam dips. if ur there long enough u start to know were u need to slow down

I have only lived in San Diego for a few years, but you are correct. The roads here are terrible. I don't understand how they can let the roads get so bad. I lived in Ohio for 7 years, and there roads are no where near as bad as they are in San Diego. Great weather year round, and they can't seem to keep up with the roads....

Anyhow, I have talked to many fellow stangers that have had busted sway bars. Pretty much the same place yours broke. I think WhiteDevil has had a broken sway bar experience or two...........

No suggestions on a replacement though. Just never though of it because it has never happened to me yet. Knock on wood.......

Lost two of them myself, same place as you say yours was. Im just going to go ahead and keep throwin em on there, hope i can beat the car into submission :P Odd they always seem to shear in the same place though
