Well i'm either going to go back to an ls1 or a mustang. I'm looking to spend somewhere between 10k-12k on the car itself.

1. Now my questions about the mustang is do they have any problems.

2. What does it take to make one as fast as a stock ls1, talking about a base gt of what ever year i can buy for 10k-12k.

3. what does it take for them to get into high 12's and mid 12's. I have also heard that mustangs don't like mods as well as the ls1. But i also figured that with a lower compression engine it would like boost alot better.

4 how much boost can a mustang make without bottom-end work, reliable, and about how much hp will it produce.

I like the newer style mustangs the best will i be able to get one for the price range i selected.

Rather basic questions, but i have never owned a mustang and the only v8 i have owned is a ls1.

Use the search button. Not trying to be an ass, but we get this question here at least 3 times a week.

You also might want to be more specific with the year you want. A 99 GT for example would cost more than a 03 GT to make it comparable to LS1

Any car will have problems...? The main problems with Mustangs seem to be from things OTHER than the engine, though. The 5.0 and 4.6 have proven to be reliable engines and the Mustang overall has a very solid drivetrain.

Well, stock they run very high 13's to low/mid 14's depending on driver, tranny, vert/coupe, etc. They can easily hit LS1 territory with just bolt-ons and traction, though without something major the LS1 will still have a top end advantage. It's not uncommon to see bolt-on 99+ GT's run 13.0-13.5 which is what most stock LS1's seem to run.

I'm pretty sure the LS1 responds better to most bolt-ons simply because of the bigger displacement. I know a cam can do wonders for an LS1 but I wouldn't expect as big of a gain with a different set of cams for a GT. One thing is for sure, the 4.6's DO LOVE TO BE BLOWN; they respond very well to forced induction. But so do LT1's and LS1's...every time I hear about a blown Camaro or Firebird it is in the 10's or 11's.

Most guys seem to push 8-10 psi and nearly always make over 400rwhp. Depends on the blower and tune of course, as well as other mods, but it is easy to hit 400 with just about any blower and 450rwhp seems to be pretty common. 500rwhp is attainable but probably easier achieved with a turbo.

I like the newer style mustangs the best will i be able to get one for the price range i selected.

Definitely. I've been looking at 99+ GT's also, and there are TONS in that price range. Maybe not 02's/03's but you can find 99's-01's all day long in that range. If you looked long/hard enough you might even be able to score a Cobra in that range.

Heh, I said long and hard.

I have owened 4 z-28,s a 75,92,95,and the last being a 99 ls1 m6. I now own a 2001 cobra and absolutly love it.dont get me wrong the ls1 makes awesome power, but the car sucks to drive. You can probably get a 99-01 gt for under 12g.As far as running with a stock ls1 you will need gears and all the bolt ons and hope for the best.the 4.6 does take well to boost ,on a stock engine imo I would not run more than 8lbs of boost intercooled.

alright thanks guys, i will be thinking about buying either a gt or z28. I enjoyed driving my t/a but have never drove a mustang,

Thanks for the posts, i had heard that a cam change doesn't really help a mustang but then a friend with a mustang was saying it would help a lot.

About what does a 01 cobra costs, that is the last question i promise, lol

Done a search on autotrader, the cheapest 01 cobra i could find is 20k. out of my range but they were very low miles.

So no need to answer my question.

Once again thanks
