Buying Tires NOW. Right choice?

Well, I am buying new tires because the rubber I have on my 17" chrome bullitts are shot to ish. I got a screw in my rear 2 days ago and the guy at Goodyear when i picked it up was like "here is your estimate. you need two new front tires and an alignment pronto" I've been putting off buying these things for a month because my bills just keep adding up and I'd like to start putting some $ away, but I guess that will have to wait a month.

Anyway! So I have 18x9/10 Chrome Saleens waiting for rubber in my basement. I'm going to pickup some BFGoodrich's for them since all I hear is amazing things about them.

295/35YR18 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 Blackwall and 275/35YR18 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2.

I think 295 is good for a 10" rear and 275 is good for a 9" front. Just making sure this is the way to go!

I deff will. I'm just hesitant to drop the the cash into the new rims. I wasn't planning on dropping it so soon. THese rims were "supposed" to last until November when I could buy and put snow tires on them. Then I was going to finish my saleen setup in the spring like my sig says. *sigh* Now I have to put new rubber on my saleens, put them on, get new snow rubber on my bullitts and remount them in 2 months. What a PITA...

Falken Ziex ZE-512s are $100 each and rated #1 by Consumer Reports magazine. You could almost get three of them for the price of one of those tires you selected.

Make sure to check websites out there like tirerack.com to make sure you are getting good cost comparison deals.

Tirerack doesnt even carry Falkens. How good can they be? I need tires that will perform well on dry and wet surface and I have heard nothing of these "Falkens"/

I have had them for a year, they do great in snow and rain.

They are rated #1 by Consumer Reports in independent, side by side testing with all other performance tires.

I used Falkens on a sport truck back in the day. I loved em. I think I got mine from Discount Tire Co, but thats when I lived out in Cali. Don't know what they have out east. I'll give a vote for the Falken's, especially as they are more cost effective. You won't kill the pocket book, especially if your remounting soon.

My truck ran 17's, and I didn't even think about that. Guess it takes care of that decision =)

Oh well, the tires you selected are better ones I am sure. I was just trying to offer a lower cost solution. But if they will not fit, then it does not matter. Congrats on your new rims

Thanks, it's a sever cost that I GUESS I have to do. When I take off my current rims I'll take pics of the bald, HORRIBLY aligned rubber that I am driving on. :-X

Why not just put a snow tire on now, and stick with the plan? As long as you don't get too crazy, putting the snow's on a few months early is no biggie, providing the tire shop has em?

do not get the ZIEX.. i have them and though they are quiet, and massivly cheap, they have the worst feel.... only thing i changed on the car was the rear tires from KDW2s to ZEIX and now my rear seems to float around. i do NOT like the feeling. If you are wanting a cheaper alternative I'd go nitto 555, if you want a longer lasting tire thats still cheaper at LEAST get the falken Azenis like i should have. OR the Fuzion tires... I have them on my front and will be putting them on the rear soon to hopefully stabalize my rear end.

take it for what its worth...

Yea, I'd rather feel safer and fork up the extra cash.

I feel that putting on snow tires now would just waste the tread...no? Wouldn't putting on snow tires come Nov/Dec be the best call since it doesn't really snow here much before December. 3 months on strict pavement I figured would be horrible for snow tires...

from what i understand ones like te blizzack can do a good amount of dry pavement driving... however my understanding is that they hold up about as well as a high performance tire would longevity wise. might want to look into a set of cheap rims and snow tires that can be swapped on and off depending if you need now traction... thus you never wear down your snow tires.

on the KDW.... its an awesome tire. my personal favorite, but its pricey and i only got around 15k out of it. the nitto 555 is similer performance just a slight notch lower, lasted me 30k, and cost less. just something to consider.

The Nitto sounds good to me. I like the double the mileage and cheaper. However, I see that tires.com offers them at 295/45 and 245/40 in 18"s. I don't know if the 40/45 sidewall will fit in my well. :-\

I just bought a set of Goodyear Eagle F1s. I heard they don't last long but so far I'm pretty happy. They are very sticky. I bought them cause I got a pretty good discount on them. Next time I'll try the KDW2s.
