I was wondering what is involved in swaping out an AOD and putting in a C4? I know you need a different flex plate. The trans and the converter. The doubble hump cross member will work from the AOD and the stock drive shaft will work too. Shifer and shifter cable. But is there any thing else?

Thanks,
Dave

I am acquiring parts to do the exact same swap into my '89 and I found this to be very helpful (even though the article is for C4 -> AOD):

http://www.mustangfaqs.com/FAQ/1st_..._C4_transmission_to_an_AOD_in_a_1971_Mustang?

It looks as though you named pretty much every part required except the block plate and possibly cooler line adapter fittings. Wiring looks straightforward.

Hopefully someone who has actually made the swap can post to identify other issues.

If you have a 164 tooth bellhousing on your C4 that AOD flexplate will work. You will also need to change your shifter and cable, there is a kit that switches your stock shifters detents and makes it work with a C4 I just had no luck with them in the past. So that is why I suggest this. I would suggest using an aftermarket cooler if a bigger convertor is being installed if not get some fittings and rubber line and connect to your factory cooler lines.

Also don't forget that the C-4 doesn't use a TV cable, and will require an intake vacuum source for the vacuum modulator.
