I'm changing to a t5 and have someone wanting my c4, it functions fine, just needs flywheel replaced because of some missing teeth, other than that it's complete... He either wants to buy it or trade fair really a 4 speed out of his 66 six cylinder...should I trade and try to sell the 4 speed or sell mine straight up? Not really interested in the 4 speed since I already have the t5 but if it's more valuable than the c4 I might trade... So what's each of them worth?

I advertised my 91K miles, perfect condition, leak-free C4, converter, perfect flex plate and block plate in the local craigslist for $100 with zero calls. After a month, a friend offered me $75 and I jumped at it. As for the 6 banger trans, I don't know the value, but it's probably about the same.

The Six Cyl never came with a four speed, only three speed. If the four speed is a top loader (T-10) then you need to take him up on the offer because it came from a V-8 car. They are almost bullet proof and bring in more money. A good one will get you $600 and a rebuilt one will snag $800. A rare close ratio model will see $1000 to $1500 depending on your local market. Used C-4's typically only sell to someone wanting to build it for drag racing and then they don't normally want one that came behind a Six Cyl.

Some 6 cylinder cars did indeed come with a Dagensham 4 speed. They are quite rare and quite weak. They are also nearly impossible to buy parts for, which is what I meant when I said they have nearly no real value to speak of.

I stand corrected. I have never seen one or heard of one in the 27 years I have been playing with these cars. But a little modern research (Google) and it apears you are correct.

I wouldn't have either, but years and years ago, my Dad owned a 6 cyl Ford with one and it was the only one I've ever seen or heard of. It was also a pile. As was the rest of the car come to think of it!

If you have a "Dangitall" 4-speed that is in good condition, it could be worth more than the C4. There are literally millions of C4's and C5's out there to be found, but very few surviving Dagenhams.

I have a C-4 rotting in my garage with a shift kit, $100 dipstick tube, and a stall torque convertor I`d almost give away to get it out of my way. It even hasw the correct bellhousing for the 65 mustang trans tunnel, try and find one of those....I just got lucky when I found mine.

By the way a T10 and a top loader are two different transmissions. T10 is a side load Borg Warner and a Top Loader is a FoMoCo. Shelby used the T10 for less weight as it has an aluminum case. The top loader is much stronger and a better tranny. Sad story, I had a close ratio toploader that I was using in a 65 for drag racing years ago. I found a wide ratio long tail shaft box, so I switch the guts out and made it into a wide ratio tranny to get the lower first gear. Picked up .4 tenths and destroyed a very rare mustang close ratio box. If only I could go back and undo the damage. That one is lost forever.
