Can you guys post pics? I'm waiting for the delete plate and will be making a cai, but I need to know what size couplings you guys used on the TB. Also, what size hole you drilled for the sensor in the tubing(one with red thing in the middle).

do you have a cai now? well i just cut my mac cai and added a 86-93 c&l tube and that was it.

I don't have one. I just want to use a straight pipe and avoid as many bends as possible. I want my only bend to be at the TB.

I modified my SN95 CAI and used a Fox C&L pipe.

The 93 Cobra is kinda tough due to the added 2" lenght in the intake snout...Getting by the shock tower is hard....I tried coming out on a 45 deg tube off the TB and still needed to sweep around the tower...The CL kinda makes the turn nicely...
I swapped to a GT40 and making a SS CAI for that...a 45 DEG sweep right off the TB work's with it as its shorter than the Cobra...
There are place that make 8" long or so 45deg silicone turbo hoses, you could try that right from the TB...its got some flexablity to it...

You can see the rub on the shock tower....Use a 5/8" dia hole for the IAT sensor and you can just thread the sensor in....I drilled a hole and used a rubber gromet for the oil vent..
I used a 45 deg sweep to get into the fender...You want straight so just add to the CL???


My Pro77 was on the end in the fender...

Thanks Andy. After taking to redsnk95, I plan on keeping a short pipe. I'll get that 45* you said and about 6-8" of piping, enough for the IAT and since I have a breather cap, I won't use the vent hose.

I used the CAI that I already had and just turned it and added a 45*, 3" drain pipe from lowes. It doen't look the best in the world but it serves the purpose for now.

Andy(rio) How in the world did you get your intake to look so smooth. Did you sand it, and how much?

It worked, but I'm trying to avoid the 90* bend. I think i'm using a 45* with about 8" of tube to make it work.

How you gonna do that

The fox setup requires you to first clear the shock tower.

Unless you go with another bend of some kind .......

You end up pointing straight at the front of the car as your pipe parallels
the shock tower.

Without another bend, you can't get inside the fender

Lots of sanding.....I shot it with hi-build primer then went at it...Guide coat and start wetsanding....Did that a few times over til it was mint...Shot it with sealer,then PPG Concept...a single stage Urethane, color and clear combined so to say...Never touched it afterwards...Stuffs tha ball's..

Sanding/prep is what makes a paint job...

Check these guys...I just got some stuff here...a 45 deg silicone hose is prolly your best bet??

Thanks Andy, I'll look into that.

Grady, I've seen people on here that run just a 45* bend at the TB and shoot it straight to the fenderwell. They have to cut the hole bigger because it won't line up properly, but it has been done. Let me see if I can find some pics.

But my intentions were to make it short like this one. He says he tried it out and the one that gave the most power was the one with a shorter pipe.

Glad you put it up

Bends hurt airflow ... no doubt about it.

Convoluted pipe is also nasty about slowing airflow btw.

By the pic, that pipe looks to be huge. I think I see a reducer at the maf. The pipe size is most likely 4"

Got a feeling, this next bit of info is not gonna be well received but I'm gonna say it anyway

IMHO, a stock block NA typical street combo is not gonna flow enough air that a 4" pipe is a must have kinda thing.

If you go down in pipe size, that may help you in your attempt with rigging up a cai of some sort.

Speaking of bends

How is that bend any different than the 45 sn elbow and a straight shot to the fender hole

I'm also using a 45* angle and with my 94-95 CAI it lined up perfect on the throttle body and other pipe.

I been dubbing around coming up with something for mine...trying to keep the turn subtle by the TB....I had hot start probs long ago with MAF in the bay so I wanna keep it stuffed it in the fender....MAF's on the end..


still have to cut 2" or so more out of the fender to line thing's up...It's a start anyway....

That's going to be cool Andy. I know a guy with a muffler shop whom can probably custom bend a 3"(thanks Grady) pipe to go directly from the TB to the fenderwell. Might go that route.
