cam choice

got a friend gettin a gt40 motor out of an explorer. would you recomend using its stock cam with 1.7's or swaping a stock HO cam with 1.7's

From what Ive read the HO cam with 1.7s sounds like a better idea than the explorer cam. Im runnin a TFS1 cam and like it alot as well!

You'll need to upgrade the valve springs as well, the springs on there were ment for that mild truck cam.

I did the same thing when I went with the TFS cam, used trick flows spring upgrade kit. If you do that then you can upgrade bumpsticks later down the road if you want!

yea i just put tfs1 in my 89 gt love it... if i can get it to idle right its got a bad problem with surging idle and often so bad it stalls. i reset the tps helped a lot but i think its sucking air throught the non functional egr valve

I'm running a stock HO cam with 1.7's. It's a great combo for something you don't want to run over 5000rpm. Excellent throttle response.

hey the bullschmidt ur surging problem sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere

The Explorer 5.0 cam had .422/.448 lift and the Mustang was .444/.444 lift. Even with 1.7 rockers a decent set of factory springs will be up to the task.
