This is bad right?

That last one, the red arrow points to some brown blemish on the lobe.

Overall, the lobes look clean except for the ones pictured in the third and fourth image. The journals of the cams however, look burnt. One cam has every journal but one marked up, the other cam has light markings on two journals. I bought the cams used over the internet, did I get ripped? That third pic scares the hell out of me.

Maybe I'm just being a namby pamby, I hope so.

It looks like the cam caps were overtightened. I'm not sure that it will cause significant issues as long as the score marks don't have a ridge to them.

I can't really tell by the picture but is that brown mark a spot of rust?

It doesn't seem like rust...its like a brown bump. Most of the black marks on the journals rubbed out with enough effort, some have a slight ridge on them that can hardly be felt with the fingernail.

What really concerns me is the deep scratch on pic three, I fear that spoils the set of cams on its own.

That scratch would be of concern to me also. I can't make out in the picture how deep it is, but if you run your fingernail across it and you can feel a ridge I would return them.

Well, here is a lesson to never buy anything used. Especially off the internet

Well, I do not think all is lost. I would return them if you can get your money back. If not, I would bet that some fine grit wet sand paper could clear up most of you problems. You might also want to stop by your local automotive machine shop and see what they have to say. Maybe they can clean them up for you or give you some advise.

Thats the thing, I've made many purchases of used parts over the internet...this is the first sour deal. I guess I got overconfident.

I'll try to work things out with the seller.
