Ok i got my 01 v8 and i was reading around about cams. What is PI and what should i be thinking about before i decide if i want to put new cams in my engine. I dont know anything about them other than what they do. Maybe someone can point me towards a Tut. Thanks a bunch

PI=power improved

PI is 1999+ so with a 2001 GT you already have PI. Putting in aftermarket cams can increase your horsepower 30-40 hp from what I've been reading. But I'm not sure if thats true for the stage 1 as it is with the stage 2. If the stage 1 can make close to that increase that will be the route I go as well.

Do all bolt on first then worry about Cams.

Stage 1's with valve springs (compcams) can add around 20rwhp from what I've heard if the tuning is done right. The cost to HP ratio is fairly pricey. Also gas mileage will drop a bit. Cams are most effective when done with an aftermarket intake manifold like the typhoon or P-51 AND even more effective with new set of heads.

Most CAI's aren't too useful for worthwhile power increases. I've tried MAC, and K&N CAI set ups and am currently using JLT True Cold Air. Biggest improvement/noticeable gains out of all three. Underdrive Pulleys from Steeda, a midpipe, rear gears, and a tuner are the best things you can do.

not to sound like a noob (i am though whats a midpipe. What are some things i can do with a tuner right now with damn near no mods. ima look into underdrive pulleys since that seems to be the easiest to do.
