i'm currently building up my 289 this is what i have so far.. 600 edelbrock carb, performer RPM intake really heavily ported 289 heads, tri-y's, 4 speed, and a 3.80 rear..i have a performer RPM cam to put in too but i'm not sure if i should go with something better i was thinking about switching to a comp cam part # 31-226-3..just looking for some input so if anyone has a better cam suggestion than either of these let me know!

It all depends on what you want out of the car. IIRC, the performer RPM is a split pattern 496/520 lift cam, and the comp pn is a 512/512. Either one will be a good street performing cam.
I think you have too small a carb, but other wise it should be fun to drive as long as you aren't concerned about getting back on the freeway.

Take a look at the Comp Cam XE268H. I have a similar build but with Edelbrock heads and a 500 cfm carb. The 268 tops out at 5800 and my engine pulls hard till the rev limiter kicks in at 6K. The cam has a nice sound and pulls well from 1500. I haev a T5Z and 3:55 gears. I have not dynoed it yet but will be soon. I don't think your carb is too small.
