thinking about ordering a set of vt stage 1 cams
what would the average time be to install these by myself? i built the 350 chevy in my truck before so i'm sorta mechanicly inclined.

also, what is the average price for a cam install?

if i do decide to install these by myself, what is the best guide to use and go by? will i have any problems like the check engine light on afterwards? i know a tune isnt NEEDED for the stage 1's, but i would probably order a xcal2 a few weeks afterwards with the mail order tune for my car. would i have any problems driving around untuned with the stage 1's?

I believe that there is a cam installation tool that allows cams to be installed more easily.

I think it would cost $800-1200 to have cams installed on 2V.

You would need to install a tune to drive the car after installing cams.

I think Streetstang has a link to cam install on his massive faq thread in Stangette.com

they say installing stage 1's is easier than installing long tube headers and normally takes about a day to do, just be sure you give yourself plenty of time. talk to hotmustang331, he installed stage 1's in his 2v and would be able to help you out im sure

btw, if you wanna do vt stage 1's you better hurry and decide.. vt seems to be having some major back orders on their cams, but their site says they have 1 stage 1 cam in stock

cam install is really not that bad. just be carefull with your timing marks. other than that it's easier than the old chevy 350

well i can get them installed at a prof. shop for $400
would that be a better idea?

That tool that holds the cam gear in place is trash and shouldn't be used at all. It promotes people to install cams improperly, then they cry when they have PTV issues.

The factory cam gears can be out by more the 6 degrees with the timing marks. Do it right and degree the cams in, then you know for sure that the cams are timed correctly. There is a real nice write-up on Modular Depot on how to degree cams in.
