I'm getting ready to swap a 96 explorer motor into the stang and was wondering what kind of effect not changing cams would have. Funds are running low since i'm swapping motor and tranny and i don't want to mess with changing the cam.

im kinda doing the same thing and wondering like you too!!but its a 2000 mountaineer motor into a 88. from what i hear it will be really $hitty to leave that cam in since its ment for high torque and Hauling stuff. im Thinking of swapping a E303 in there. Anyone else with other opinions Jump on in!

I personally would not run a letter cam just beause of the driveability issues involved. Most won't idle without a chip or tweecer. If you're going to spend the $$ for a cam, I'd go with either an FTI (preferable but spendy), or an off the shelf from trick flow, comp, or the like. I just completed my H/C/I with a fairly aggressive FTI cam, and it started right up and idled the first time (hopefully that continues!). Just some things to consider.

I thought the explorers started having the gt40P's in 97? if so, y ou shoulda gone for that extra year! Anyways, yes, i'm pretty sure that the cam is a torque oriented cam, you may want to replace it, but you could most certainly wait on it! Just save your money and get the cam you want. an E cam would probably be fine... it would be an upgrade anyways. i'm getting it due to emissions reasons, but hey, that's just me. What you're going to do to the thing only you know!

definitely upgrade the springs and do an AFM b21 or B31 cam

here is a P head dyno. unported P heads with boltons, long tubes, etc etc
