im getting the engine in my 79 5.0 rebuilt and its going to be stock except im putting a different intake on for a 4 barrel carb and some headers as well but im wandering what would be a good cam to get for it that would work with a stock valve train but increase performance a little
Stock '79 5.0 is pretty, um, lethargic. Not quite sure I would recommend putting the money into a rebuild of one if you are only putting an intake and headers. It's a flat tappet cam as well. The '79 5.0 was only rated at 140HP, so even with some performance mods you might struggle to hit 175HP.
Get some different heads...e-7 heads are a dime a dozen, will be a cheap performance upgrade and a simple gasket match port job will help you out lots!!
