Yeah, much of a shock load on that stock input shaft reportedly breaks or twists it.

I did a LOT of research on what to do with AODs, here's some info on them
http://www.lincolnsonline.com/article111.html

Then after fighting unsuccessfully with getting the shift points anywhere near where I'd like, I dug more deeply into a 4R70W swap - with results per this link
(I've got my trans for $200, going to rebuild it with oem frictions etc, found a source for a good moderate stall converter for $200, and after researching wiring in a 94/95 AOD/E ecu to run either the whole shebang or just the trans, have come back to deciding the Baumann is the best setup esp for someone who doesn't have ready and repeated access to tuning equipment to dial in the trans - and tuning devices like the tweecer reportedly only address a few of the trans parameters, and the trans is harder to tune thru a stock ecu than the engine, and it's relatively easy with the Baumann control -

Everything considered, I think the 4R swap wouldn't be much diff in cost than a
real AOD build, and then the shift points are infinitely tuneable and there's no lockup in 3rd. PLUS you've got heavier duty internals like the output shaft that can NOT be put into an AOD, AND there's no spaghetti input shaft to worry aobut.
