, So im thinking of getting a 1997 GT. My question is can I make it a low 13's NA car, 
with spending a lot of money 
Nitrous, gears and slicks. You won't go faster, cheaper! 
...but for a daily driver, that's not bottle fed, yeah it's gonna cost you a few bucks. Gear's PI Head/Intake swap at least, for a solid 13-second car on street tires.

It's very much possible, just a heck of a lot easier to start with a 99+ platform.

On top of that, with just a few bolt ons you can run low into the 13s or even the high 12s if you set your car up with a good drag suspension. The only downside to that is the fact your cornering ability takes a hit, so you need to take it easy on the street.

Not with just swapping the cams. You're going to at the very least swap the intake with the cams, and run 4:10-4:30's out back. A bigger T/B and upper plemum wouldn't hurt either. But even then, you're just barely going to crack them on street tires.RalphWT said:

Nope, PI's suffer the same fate. Only the manifolds (PI or NPI) with the aluminum crossover are safe. I've got an intake sitting in my garage from an '02 GT that's all plastic. Mind you, it's brand new (16,000-miles) and isn't cracked, but it's not the updated on.merc123 said:

I had a 98GT, and with gears, exhaust, intake, it was still slower than my 02GT (stock).
I would recommend getting a 99+ and starting from there.
IF NOT, get the 97, then get a PI Headswap (heads/cam/intake). You can get one at http://performance.parkwayfordga.com/Headswap.asp or on e-bay or something. Then do Gears, then exhaust and a plenum and T/B. With D/R tires, you should be 13s. I think 97GTs do like 14.5 stock.
Oh, and make sure its a 5spd

the 96-98s all had that stupid cracking issue at the thermostat housing...
If you really want the 97 to be a 13 sec car all you need is
-Gears
-Nitrous
-Pullies/Timing Adjuster
-and possibly PI power

Should have stuck with the fox...........For a modular to get in the 13's u need all of that: spray gears etc..... Damn sad story.

The 97 is a viable contenter once you consider a few things....
A headswap for a 5.0 is going to be just a few hundred bucks less than a 2V head swap. Once you cam and gear the 2V right, it'll run right with any heads/cam/intake-swapped 5.0. The aftermarket is starting to come around for the 2V cars - once there becomes a larger selection of camshafts, manifolds, etc., the 4.6 2V will really start to show that the difference in cubes (between it and the 5.0) doesn't mean much.

And let’s not even compare how a 4.6 SOHC/DOHC mod motor responds to forced induction, compared to an old Pushrod 302....the phrase "More Bang for the Buck" comes to mind!Joes95GT said:
