can someone help me,, i can't get my trans in all the way!!!!

I have been installing my mcleod bellhousing since 9 this morning, after all the modifications to get the thing mounted to the block, about 4 hours ago I tried to put the tremec tranny in,, i can get it all the way in except for 1/4 inch,,, any ideas???? I have checked and tried everthing I could think of....

I know the pilot bearing is in all the way, i did it this morning,, the grease in the input shaft after removing the tranny shows its not even close to bottoming out on the bearing..

I wish I never bought this damn bellhousing!!! It has been a pain in the ass from the very start!!!! My engine should be in and running right now!!!

Well, normally i it was in the car, youd push the clutch pedal down and it would slide right in. Being out of the car prob makes it more difficult. Gonna need a buddy or soemthing to help push the fork in

Did you use a that tool that lines the pressure plate to the pilot bearing? I had problems with mine and finally broke down and bought the tool and my tranny went right in. It's about 4 bucks or so, makes the job a whole lot easier.

Didn't help... i will take it all back apart tomorrow,, DONT EVER BUY ONE OF THESE BELLHOUSINGS!!! Unless you absolutley have to have it!! i which I never did!!!

Blandnuts.... i tried to buy one but nobody had one for a tremec tko spline,, I'm pretty sure it's not the problem... thank alot guys,,

Try contacting mcleod. It may require something as simple as a slightly shorter pilot bearing, as most bellhousing manufacturers would warn you if a longer or shorter input shaft was required.

Sorry, didn't read the grease on the shaft closely. Sounds as if you've done everything right, I'd still contact mcleod and bitch about it.

dude you wouldn't want me to do that!!! I hate this friggen thing!! I think it's a piece of sh-t!! here is a list of problems i've had

the adapter ring doesn't fit in the bellhousing,, i got it to go in after enlarging the hole, but now the trans wont go in it,, it's goes in all the way but 1/4 inch.

the backing plate hits the flywheel,I had to put a washer in between the plate and bell in a few of the bottom holes to keep the plate away,, which I'm sure tech at the track won't pass when they see the gap.

,, all but the top 2 bolts going into the block, i had to grind the bell where the bolt heads bottom out on, because they wouldn't go close to being flush.
i knew about the starter grind (2 minutes) and the header clearence grind (2 minutes also),, but is all this other stuff normal???

i really think i got a dud here, i read other posts and noone has had this kind of a problem.... I am a toyota master tech (12 years) and a ase certified master diagnostic tech (12 years)... You would think i would be able to wiz through this,, it just sucks..... tony

I'm going to take the bell back off tom, and see if the trans will go into it,, it did earlier,,, than if that's good i will pick up the tranny and put it into the clutch plate and pilot bearing and see if it goes in,, for all i know it could be the pilot bearing,, it's a brand ne3w for part,, but you never know... I have a spare, and it fits the input shaft like a glove so i know it's the right one....

Jeez, tv, it almost sounds as if somebody sent you the wrong bellhousing. I'd be p.o.'d too. With your experience, something definately is wrong, as since it's designed for a certain engine or vehicle, it usually is not that much of a hassle, as you well know. Let us know what you find out so we can stay away from these folks if necessary. All the luck.

I got 2 adapter rings with my bell. One fits nice and snug in it.

It fit the tranny like a glove,, but the hole where the bell is, it wasn't even close to going in there!!! Did your fit right in???? Did you have to grind where all your bolts went in????

It fits into the bell with no prob, kinda tight tight, but i kind of expected it. Its still sittign in my basement unforuneately. Its sucks only having one car and right now, and the motor i have built up wouldnt be too much fun for a DD

Mine is definatley a dud then,,, i had to grind about 1/16 of an inch all the way around the hole to get in in with a hammer and block of wood....

Put the driveshaft back in the trans and rotate to align the splines. You'll probably have to pull the trans back slightly to rotate it. Had that happen many times. Frustrating as hell when you're doing the trans by yourself...not to mention your arms start burning!

Seriously, calm down and go back at it tomorrow. Things always go easier the next day. Theres no problem with the bellhousing.

Make sure you are going in straight...so it isn't catching the ring. Did you grease the input shaft? It will go believe me. I've fought and fought one(about a 1/4- 1/2 to go), pulled it back out to make sure the throwout bearing didn't slip(that pisses me the **** off too, lift the damn tranny up and knock the t o bearing off the fork ). Fell right into place.
