Does anyone have a preference on exhaust.
I like em loud! But not loud enough to get me pulled over .

Well, I ordered the SLP Loudmouth 2 days ago for $225 shipped, and I think it is the best sounding exhaust on an 05 with stock cats. But it is LOUD. But thats what I want. The way I see it, it is the closest I can get to having an off road pipe in california.

I thought of getting a V6, I just wish it had more rumble... Good luck getting a loud exhaust.

I have also installed the SLP loudmouth on my GT. Everyone here on stangnet seems to either really love or really hate the loudmouth. I think it souds good, but it is loud at everything over about 2000 RPM. I live in okiehoma where pickups with glasspak exhausts are the rule so I don't forsee any problems with tickets. I did have an interesting experence with the car last night that kind of sums up what the SLP is like. Some kid in a late model SS Camero pulled up next to me and started revving it up. I let 'em go (as I usually do) because with my job, speeding tickets cost me $1200 off my safety bonus. Anyway, at the next light his girlfriend leans over and starts yelling all kinds of crap about my piece of @#%$ and how it's a waste of a car that I'm too old and chicken to use it and the like. Kind of ticked me off, so I gave 'em both a dirty look and did a couple of revs to 5 grand or so in preperation for a hard launch on the green and a funny thing happened- Mr. hotshot suddenly remembered that Mom only let him use her car to go get the milk because he suddenly had to make a right turn! LOL. I think I may actually have LESS of a chance of getting a ticket now, mainly because I have to baby the car around town, doing all my shifts at 1700 RPM so as not to attract the wrong kind of attention. It's that loud.

I also have the SLP Loudmouth, but I have an off road MAC Prochamber to go with it. It's very loud outside of the car. Inside it's only loud when under heavy accelaration and when the windows are down. At highway speeds it's pretty quite inside with no drone.

And what is the point of a loud(er) exhaust, anyway? My only experience w/such things is an ex who had a flowmaster on his F150...it was loud and put a cheesy grin on his face.
I get the feeling this has nothing to do with performance.

Well, exhaust tips aren't going to give you much if any in performance gains, but there is nothing like hearing a car with a nice exhaust. You can do other things to the exhaust to get gains in performance which would mainly be doing something to the cats since they are a major bottleneck in the exhaust system.

I'm running a pair of FlowMaster S40. I had no problem pull off the OEM cans but had to weld the "slip-on" clamp to the FlowMasters before I put them on. A decent shop should be able to do all this for under $400... the mufflers cost about $160 each. I added chrome tips as well. Pix and Video coming soon.

It used to be that the louder the exhaust, the less restriction was in the exhausts path, the more horsepower you were making. Well horse "power" may not be the right word any more. Maybe it's more like manure,,, but a great sounding exhaust will still put a smile on any kids face and there is still some truth to the quitier the exhaust, the more restrictive it's is to making horsepower.

Mazada spent millions tuning the Miata's exhaust, so has Infinity on their cars of late just as Ford spent a great deal of money getting the right sound on the Mustang. Some PHD probably has had a field day tying all this back to our males ego's or lack of confidence there in....

SLP now has a quieter muffler called Power Flow. Not as loud as the Loud Mouth but still packs a wallop.

American Thunder kit

I'm getting the new kit from Flomaster. It should arrive in a day or two. I've heard that it isn't too loud, but just enough of a deep growl that I like.

How funny! Are you my ex? (Sorry, I asked this because I have also have an F150 and did the same thing to mine!) But seriously, not taking offense at what you said, I kinda understand. However, I did the exact thing. Put a flowmaster with dual tips on my truck. I thought it upped the hp just a bit. Plus, even though I never get a cheesy grin on my face, the sound of the low rumble has some strange effect on me!

No offense but maybe you should have bought a v-6 instead of the GT?

I never have quite understood that with trucks, either. Muscle cars, yes to a point. A nice rumble is good. It complements the power under the hood. Too loud and it's annoying. But, trucks? I own a truck, and I love it! It's my utility vehicle. I can haul mulch, stone, 2x4s, my riding mower, furniture. And best of all, I can drive it in the winter to keep my Mustang out of the salt and snow! But the whole thing of modifying trucks to make them louder or faster or racing them around a track in a NASCAR sanctioned event ... I just don't get it.
