canadian cobra?

i was curious if ford built cobras further into the 80s than they did in america because i was looking on one of the many restoration sites for late model 'stangs and they had a canadian cobra decal which was like the early 80s cobra decals but slanted in the opposite direction. i just assumed they made them longer in canada like dodge makes sebrings with the 2.4t's in mexico... except mexico doesnt have the emissions restrictions. anyone?

In Canada, 87-93 GTs were billed as "Cobras". They are no different than any other GT except they have that different badging. They're no more desirable and not considered a Cobra except by those who don't know any better.

being a canadian cobra bumps the value just cause a canadian owned it at one point in time




lol, not a single difference, my 88 gt's insurance says "1988 Mustang Cobra GT"

Tsk Tsk. I guess you decided that Ford doesn't think of theses as Cobra's? Why the badging then. I guess if you mean Not a Cobra built by SVT then you are correct. But to say they are called Cobra's by people who don't know any better.......Thats kinda ignorant. I agree that they are no more desirable but they are still badged as Cobra's. Oh and since your in the know you might want to change your 87-93GT years as there are a few more years in canada that were badged Cobra.

Hasn't this subject been beaten to death enough around here? I vote for a *sticky* or perhaps add it to FAQ.

Ford used the nameplate "Cobra" on Canadian market GT's so that they would retain the trademark on the name. This is why the title will say "GT/Cobra" in most states.

On a side note, Ford failed to do something like this with the name "GT-40" and lost the name trademark to a company in the UK. That's why we now have the "Ford GT".

Sorry to piss you off, dude. I knew about the name retention as well, and I was only referring to the more common ones and just referring to the SVT version of Cobras (my mistake, I know).

ah, sorry for not searching guys, i wasnt thinking and thanks for the quick answers. i think i personally wouldnt mind having a 87-93 GT that was badged a cobra from the factory unlike many others but that's just me.

Well if it says cobra...then i keep my badges I just tell people it's my interpretation of what the cobra should have been..he he he.
