Can anybody help me to identify this chip? I have tried googling the numbers, but have had no luck. There are no labels on it at all.

Looks like one I had many years ago made by Hypertech. They were worthless!

There's really no way to tell what that is by the pics provided.

The part number indicated on the connector is the part number for the connector itself and not the assembly that it's attached to.

So basically, there is no way to tell who made it and what type it is except for the design since the labels are missing.

See if you can pull the number off of the integrated circuit.

Should be the largest, square, flat chip on the board itself. It may be buried between the circuit board and the wall of the housing that it's in.

Thanks, I will see if I can get the board out and examine it more closely.

I pulled the board out and flipped it over, it has Hypertech - 891017 printed in the corner and @1989 at the opposite end.

Aha! I don't believe that Hypertech makes chips for our cars any longer. You may want to give them a call depending on what it is that you're trying to do or find out.

I read a few things, doing a google search, that this chip was a "joke" and only changed timing for more power, which can be done on our own for free and that they were a waste of time and money. Good thing I got it for free, it came with the car when I bought it to replace my wrecked 86.

You may very well have hit the nail on the head. I've not owned one but I recall a time when devices like that were all over the damned place.

If you discover that it is indeed one of these units, take it out into the yard and burn it with fire.
