Canton oil pan pickup questions on a dart block

Hey guys, i am in the process of installing the oil pan on my car, when i installed the pickup i realised that the pickup bolts to the oil pump fine, but the tab that is welded on the pickup, that looks like its supposed to go to some type of stud, does not fit. I dont have any studs on the mains on my motor. I know i am probably not the first person to run into this problem, does anyone know what i can do to get it to work, or if i can remove the tab and just not use it?

a stud should have came with the pan/pickup if you ordered it as a kit. i got mine from ad's performance. you have to use the stock nut from your stock block though. it doesnt come with a nut, only the stud.

I didnt see a nut or a stud on the packaging, maybe they forgot to box it, i will have to look again. Thanks!!

We just had this problem on a buddies motor with ARP studs. What we did was dremmel out the hole on the pickup tab so it would go over the stud and then used a small nut with some red loctite on it.

This is what some people told us to do , so we did it, not saying it's the right way though.

Ditto for me....Canton and ARP studs in my 408.

According to Canton, they had never heard of such a problem.

I took some pics of the mis-alignment of the pickup tab and the stud. I'll post later.

I sent mine back to Canton. They still couldn't figure it out.

They sent back a pickup for a main girdle setup, but I sold the Canton pan before I mocked it up again so I don't know if the issue was solved or not.

One thing....mock up the crank, rods & pistons and install the pan. Turn the crank a couple of rotations to see if you've got clearance everywhere. My crank throws were touching one of the internal scrapper rails. Needed to "adjust" it a bit. (LFH )

I got the pan for a mustang with a girdle because i needed the clearancing for the stroke of my motor (4.170), i checked the clearancing on the crank and everything clears just fine, i guess i could drill the hole that the tab has on it to clear the bolts that they used, they used main bolts not studs, or just remove that bolt and install a stud where that is supposed to mount, expensive way to go as i have to buy a set of studs, but if that is what i have to do i will do it. I was just worried that if i put the tab under the bolt that it would throw the torque off on the bolt.

First pic is of the mismatch of the pickup tab and main stud.

Second pic is of the #3 main stud with the extension for the pickup tab. You should be able to buy this as a single piece from ARP without getting the whole set.

Thanks!! I did a search and actually found it through the canton website, they sell it seperately and i bought one. Thanks for all your help!
