Car keeps dieing at idle?

This started a couple years back but would rarely happen.. today it has become really bad and dies all the time. Car will not idle by its self. This is a bone stock 98 mustang.

I kinda figured it was that.. im looking this up for a buddy of mine.. i never owned a 4.6L so im not real good with them.

Is there a way to clean the IAC?

You can try with carb cleaner, but you are better off just getting a new one from autoparts store or from ford(more expensive). Easy to put on.

Assuming that is the problem of course, but if he hasn't replaced it before he is due for a new one anyways.

i was having the same problems w/ my IAC, and i heard of a quick fix. take the handle of a large flathead screwdriver and tap the IAC valve a couple times. did it to mine and i have been stall-free for ~ 6 months. saves ~$50 for the part too

Ill give that a try! Probably just knocks the carbon build up off if your lukcy!

I had same problem, used the screwdriver and have been problem free for 4 mos now

that and /or the fuel filter.
