car lurches??

the other morning i got and my mom needed some **** at the store so i went out and started the car up and everything went fine....normally when i drive it when its cold in the winter (motor cold i mean) it will take a lil more effort to drive, clutchwise (more gas needed and clutch needs to be slipped more) so i normally start it 5 min before i leave for school to avoid that and it works fine....well after i go through the stupid clutching for 5 min or so, the car warms up and shifts like a charm, but about 20 minutes later, i got the wierdest feeling ever.....in any gear whether it be accelerating, or crusing in a gear, the car lil give a little bit of a lurch at random times...sometimes in bursts, sometimes just once.....so i came home and went out for the rest of the day w/ my buddies not thinking much of it....well i get back and i had told my dad what happened so he took it for a ride, and nothing happened to him....so i took it out and nothing happened either.....well i've pretty much thought i was gone, but then it happened this afternoon...not as bad as before, but still annoying...i thought it might be the clutch slipping, but my dad said he didnt think so cause i'd smell burnt clutch, among other symptoms....any clues on what this could be?? :shrug:
 
more info needed mileage on car if or when clutch was last replaced, type of clutch. it may be time for a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearings. but a good guess would be you have a worn pressure plate.

its hard to explain...its not a surge..that used to happen to me and i reset the tps and fixed the idle and its rock steady now....it feels like theres a little slip or something in the drivetrain like the clutch is slipping, but not really....im trying to think of how to explain this better....it just feels like something is not engagingfor like .25 seconds...sometimes single times, other times in spurts....sorry for not being able to explain this, its jsut pissing me off.....

yea theres 100,6xx miles on the car, as far as i know its the stock clutch, but i really dont know....the car has driven GREAT the whole time i've had it, shift perfect every time, clutch always engages well....this just happens in the cold....
 
if its a stock clutch its time for a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearings. a king cobra you will love it. if you carry it to a good tranny shop they will test drive it and they will tell you whats wrong or what they need to do to find out problem and give you an estimate for free most of the time (ask) and don't use any type of clutch, run a link and get info. about clutches and then decide.

oh i dont a shop to do it, i can change the clutch no problem, i just dont know if thats actually a problem...ima take it to my guru buddy "mustang dave" we call him, and see what he says....
 
UPDATE: i went to take the bro somewhere tonite, and it was missing again, so i got my dad and he immediately said its either a spark miss, or a fuel delivery problem....so we popped the hood, and made sure all the plug wires were tight, and that no injectors were leaking.....nothing was wrong....we took the car out, and it didnt happen....i dont get it?!?
 
Is the miss under light load or any specific instance like that? Would you say it feels like you lifted your foot off the gas for a split second? And if it is under light load, if you go deeper into the gas, does the issue go away?

One thing that can be kinda worthwhile is to clean the PIP. The inside of dizzy caps can get dirty. Some electrical cleaner can clean it up so the chance of a shudder burp is less likely. Probably wont help, but it cant hurt too much.

If you can get it to miss again, short of using a scope, see if you can run a cylinder balance test. The miss does not sound consistant enough (not a full cylinder miss) to be easy to catch by us (human), but the puter might be able to recognize a lack of RPM drop in a cylinder. [The CBT looks for a given amount of RPM drop as it cuts each cylinder, so if one drops less than another, that cylinder can be retested up to twice more with looser test criteria to see how bad the miss is].

But getting a lead like that can help to trace down the miss if it is a given cylinder.
