Car not starting...help plz

So i just noticed when i started my car this morning it took a little bit longer for it to turn over. It almost seemed that the battery was dying. When i got to work i stopped the car and started the car again. But it was just trying to kick over and then the car stopped and the battery was "dead". So would that be the alternator not charging the battery or the battery just sucking...
 
im gonna check the alternator to see if its charging at what it should be... i know my battery sucks big time. I get corrosion soo fast and have had to jump start the battery multiple times... any place where i should buy the alternator if it is the altenator cause i dont want to order one online and wait i have to have my car working by saturday... some place like pep boys, autozone, kragen. Which is the best place to go?
 
Mustangs I know are famous for heavy corrosion on battery posts. Make sure you have a really good ground. I was having problems with grounds so I used the post clip were you actually solder the cables to the clip. As for you dieing battery. Get a voltmeter and check the voltage across your batter posts. If it is 14 to 15 your alternator is fine. If it is not...replace the alternator.
 
well i went to go start it and it almost turned over, and then it just clicks now when i turn the key. So who knows. But i read another post about a guy who had his battery draining slowly because his ignition. He said that the ignition wouldnt lock so the door chime would go off even with his keys NOT in the ignition. Mine does the same thing.

So i have to turn off the car, press the key release trigger and hold, then move the ignition down and then push the ignition towards the drivers door so the door doesnt chime. I always used to just leave it at the point above OFF because i was to lazy to press the trigger and all the stuff. But now if i get my car to start defintely i will make sure always to have the ignition completly OFF.

The door chime thing does not drain the battery unless the door is open. What it sounds like is that you have a bad BATTERY. If the engine runs ok once it's started, the alternator is fine. Go to advanced and have them test your battery. I've had this happen enough to know that's the problem. Now, if you do get it jumped off and start driving around and it dies.... then your alternator is screwed up.
 
So you are saying it my battery... hiattwl . Cause i dont have a problem with the car shutting off while im driving around. The car just clicks now when i try to start it. But the problem is i drive around and park somewhere. And the next time i try to start my car the car barely starts from not having enough power. Like last night i drove to cingular and parked. My car was parked for about 30 mins. When i started my car again the car started alot slower than usual.

But this morning when i started the car to go to work, it started slowly again as well. But, me being stupid right when i arrived at work, I parked and shut off the car. Then i tried to start the car right away like 10 seconds after and it started very very slowly. Then i shut off the car again and another 10 seconds later i tried to start the car and it wouldnt start at all. So now all i get it clicks. I hope it's just battery.

Where should i go get a battery from, pep boys, auto zone, or kragen and what brand battery if it turns out to be my battery?

P.S. - Oh and randomly my amps for my sound don't turn on, so theres no power going my amps. I used a multimeter to check the power at the fused distribution block and there was nothing. My amp used to work. Could that also just be the battery turning to crap?
 
The amp problem may be a loose connection somewhere, or dirty battery posts. But if you want a good battery, find someone who has interstate batteries, i have had one and never had a problem out of it. But yes, it does sound like a battery problem. Advance auto has a machine that will test it for sure...they do that for free.
 
Just take it to the parts store and have them check the system out. Or do it yourself if you comfortable doing it. This is not rocket science.

If you end up replacing components and want the old ones tested in the store (like Hiattwl suggested), it is called a bench test (so they know what you are wanting). It is a very good suggestion and idea.

If cash is an issue, Wally marts sells batteries for cheap. I live in the desert and heat kills them anyhow, so short of running a gel-cell battery, those work fine for me.

Yeah i just picked up an optima red top from pep boys and its fine now. I checked the voltage coming from my alternator and its charging just fine. It was just my old xoide battery sucking.
