Wondering if someone can help me figure out what the heck is wrong with my car. Here's the rundown:

Car: 2001 Mustang GT with approximately 60,000 miles. Only modifications that would actually effect the engine are Steeda pulleys, Steeda timing adjuster, Magnaflow X pipe w/cats, Magnaflow catback, and K&N air filter. The engine was running perfect since I bought it in 2000, until last week.

Background: Car has always run great with no issues. Last weekend, I tried to start the car with no luck. Car turns over fine but will not even hint of starting. Purchased a fuel pressure gauge to see if fuel is getting to the rails...nothing. Changed the fuel filter to see if that was the problem. No luck. Not sure if the fuel pump is running, but I don't notice any unusual changes to the (or lack of) sound when attempting to start the car.

Out of the blue, the car started yesterday for a few minutes but ran extremely rough before stalling and triggering the MIL. That's where I was able to pull codes with my scanner as no codes showed up before this event.

DTCs:
P0190 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction (FRP) - Voltage is within range, haven't gone further for more pinpoint tests...

P0193 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Input Voltage Too High.

Does the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor control the fuel pump? If so, could the sensor be faulty, shutting the pump off prematurely? I hate all the computers in today's cars!!!

Any help would be appreciated!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

My friend recently got P0190 along with a lean signal from both O2 sensors (P1132 & P1152). We've been told it's a fuel pump issue but the car has been stored for the winter and the problem has not been solved yet. I can tell you it started / idled fine though. My advice, clear the codes and borrow the FP sensor from a friend's car. If it doesn't solve your problem, it could be your fuel pump.

Sorry I can't help you more than that

Some possible causes:

P0190: The comprehensive component monitor (CCM) monitors the FRP sensor to the PCM for VREF voltage. The test fails when the VREF voltage from the PCM drops to a voltage less than a minimum calibrated value.

VREF open in harness.
VREF open in sensor.
VREF open in PCM.

P0193: The comprehensive component monitor (CCM) monitors the FRP sensor circuit to the PCM for high voltage. If voltage were to fall below a calibrated limit and a calibrated amount of time during testing, the test will fail.

FRP signal shorted to VREF or VPWR.
FRP signal open (gasoline only)
Low fuel pressure (NG only)
Damaged FRP sensor.
Damaged PCM.
High fuel pressure (caused by damaged fuel pressure regulator) NG.

Thanks for the replies thus far. I've already checked the IFC Switch in the trunk. Additionally, the fuel pressure gauge is showing zero pressure. I'll start trouble shooting the electronics this weekend.

Any possibility of the timing adjuster playing into this issue due to the relocation of the sensor to an external location (e.g., dirty/bad pickup)? I've had the timing adjuster for 2 - 3 years without issue. Just wondering if that could cause this strange problem...

I'm not familiar with the timing adjuster, aside from what I've read here. I definately would think it's a possibility, if you have relocated something which was stock.. i.e. a sensor.

Figured it out!

It ended up being the fuel pump. I installed a SVT focus pump. That should take care of me when I add the blower next year. While I had it up, I installed my Griggs Racing LCAs, koni coil overs, and the axle mount for the PHB. I'll install the over half of the PHB next week along with the torque arm...

Thanks for all of your help!
