OK So my setup in my sig is not running right and I can't for the life of me figure it out. Right now the car will bog down when I floor it low end. Top end it hardly bogs at all (3k+). This means the carb is putting too much fuel, but if i'm in 5th gear @ 80 mph and I floor it, it backfires OUT of the carb, meaning that its not giving ENOUGH fuel. I've got my timing currently set @ 13* and its running the best that its ran so far but is stil running not great. I've tried 8*, 11*, 13*, 16*, 18*. Can anyone help me here? I've adjusted teh idle mixture screws all over the place with no real luck as to making it run better... HELP

Also @ 11* it ran decent and I got good mileage, I've noticed now that i'm @ 13* I can smell the unburnt fuel and I seem to be getting a lot worse mileage.

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them because basically all I am doing right now is trying random **** hoping it works but nothing has so far. I'm thinking about trying 10*, 12*, 14*... But that means I have to set the timing, drive around and feel out the bogging/backfiring whatever it may be, then adjust the screws, drive, adjust the screws, drive, repeat as many times as it takes and its a long process. SO if anyone has any ideas that can make the process shorter I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Also I have the advance spout on the left side of the carburetor, which is advance @ throttle so i'm told. Should it be on the right side (constant advance), or the left side(throttle advance)???

After reading some posts and other sites doing research i'm seeing that Holley & Speed Demon carbs are more responsive to WOT where as Edelbrock carbs are more for cruising. Is it possible that this is causing the problems all together? Should I sell the edlebrock and buy a demon or holley carb and work from there rather than wasting tons of time trying to get my car running good with a carb that could possibly never run right?

I'm thinking this might be true because If I ease into the throttle, pretty heavily, but not just dropping it to the floor, the car is very responsive. However, if I just drop it WOT that's where problems arrise.

From personal expierence Edelbrock carbs suck, go with a Holley, if you have a little bit more to spend get an AED Holley carb. also what kind of cam are you running? I have the f-303 cam and was running an edelbrock 750, the carb was too big for the lift on the cam. had to go to an holley 650 double pumper. Also the Victor Jr intake is ment more for top end rpms if you want something for the street you need a dual plane intake edelbrock rpm or the air gap. My carb used to backfire and bog down alot, had my timing checked and found out that my heads were bad.

I'm not sure what cam is in my car, the guy I bought it from didn't mention putting in a new cam but it seems to have a lope to it so I think theres something aftermarket there. I have an edelbrock rpm intake i just haven't had a chance to put it on yet. I'm thinking I might have to end up selling my edelbrock and buying a holley or a speed demon. Should have just done that in the beginning but I thought edelbrock would do the trick

750 is way too large for a stock 302. I had a 750 on my 302 origionally and if I would gas it anything more than 1/2 throttle it would bog for like 5 seconds straight. Not to mention my car caught on fire because of the 750 bogging heavily then backfiring and igniting all the fuel inside the carb. Luckily I already had my 650 I just hadn't put it on yet.

Anyone have any ideas? If it's all revolving around my carb being an edelbrock and not meant for what I want it to do. Any recommendations on what kind of carb I should get? Holley or Speed demon 600? Which ones? What would be best for my setup. I want something that will be really responsive @ WOT.

change the intake 1st, the victor is way to much for a stock to mild engine. You'll get a better signal to the carb with the RPM intake, it might cure some of your probs. Intake gaskets are cheaper than a new carb

If you DO go holley, try a street avenger 650..

might head over to
http://www.carbdford.com/

some e'brock people that might help too..

In that case, what are the steps/process in changing intake manifolds? Anything special I need to know/do?
