Well,

I took out my carpet last night because...well...I will save that for another thread. Anyway...my carpet had insulation attached to the bottom of it...about 3/4"? thick. After I took out the carpet and the insulation attached to it, there was another layer of insulation...about 3/4" thick. My question...am I suppose to have this double insulation? Insulation attached to the bottom of my carpet and another layer that came out after I took my carpet out?

Not if the second layer was the same as the first. There WAS a second layer but it was not clothlike, it was very much like extremely thick tarpaper. There was a layer of this on each of the four floorpans as well as under the back seat. At least it was on '67s.

Edbert is right; mine had the jute-like insulation attached to the carpet, then the underlayment material in the pans, under the back seat, etc..

If you are replacing your carpet you might want to consider doing wondermat. The cost of two rolls of the wondermat was less than one floorpan's "tarpaper" may and four rolls weigh less than the little square one in the backseat floor.
