So after a heavy rain I noticed that the passenger side of my carpet gets wet under the dash. This was after a heavy rain so I know it’s not the heater core. There was water under the carpet on the floor but luckily there is no rusting at all. I will try to peek under the rest of the carpet as much as I can. I know that this could be from the cowl, although there are minimal leaves and debris under the vent. I’m gonna have my car parked under a carport soon so I’m not so worried about finding the source of the leak, what I’m really worried about is discovering rust which might be causing the leak. I’m gonna do two things to see if there is rust
1. Pull the fender and look
2. Pull the windshield trim and look for rust
To anyone who has experienced leaks like I do, how likely am I to find something terrible when I pull everything out? And am I approaching this correctly? Is reinstalling the fender after removing it easy?

If you water test it do this...
Two people needed... DO NOT use high pressure or a hose end... Just a slight flow from the hose end...
Start at the bottom of the firewall and work up SLOWLY... Water flows downhill.......
One inside the car, with a flashlight, and one working the hose...... Take your time.
Windshields, inside cowls and bad body work can all be suspect.... Lack of seam sealer can be suspect too....
