changing fuel filter

The fuel filter is between the gas tank and axle. First you have to pop off or break off the clips on each side and pull the hoses off. Be carefull, there will be lots of gas coming out. After that you have to lossen the band around the filter and pull it out.

You might want to go pick up a haynes manual, not sure if it tells you how to or not.

One can depressurize the fuel system first. Check that the new filter includes new hairpin type clips before breaking the old ones (a flatblade screwdriver and/or needlenose pliers normally take care of the clips).

yeah haynes manual gives a good breakdown of it... depressurizing helps alot to. switch the inertia switch ( little red button in the trunk) which kills the fuel pump. then you start the car and run it til it dies. granted some gas will still come out, but it wont spray at you lol. gl its pretty easy to do

Funny story since this was brought up.

I decided to change my fuel filter about a week ago, don't remember why I decided to, just did.

So I pull it into a bay at a dealership where i detail cars, spot it easily, and pop one of the rubber hoses off. Depressurizing a gas tank was apparent to me, well, not then. So, gas is all over my clothes now, and I have 5 hours left of work, I figure WTH and keep going.

We get it off, get the new one on, and then realize we broke one of the plastic "pins" that hold the hoses on. So, with 1/2 hour to go until NAPA closes, my buddy runs and gets a 5-pack. Comes back, and we're good to go. My buddy (this says a lot for Honda mechanics) is the one who put the new clip in and put those hose on.
A (smarter) mechanic had earlier said there is no way we should be able to pull this hose off if put on properly....

So, to test its strength, I pull on the hose. At eye level, pressurized gas comes SHOOTTTING out on my face, eyes, body, etc. Don't know if any of you have had the pleasure of gas in the face, but that **** burns.

Turns out the genious Honda mechanic hadn't put the clip over the little nipple in the line. 15 seconds later, and one kid with his head in the sink, and it was done.

Funny now, then, that **** hurt.

yea i work at an oil change place, we frequently do fuel filters, just make sure the keys out of the ignition, release the gas cap, i didnt do that when i did my fuel filter a while back, it was my first time ever doing one, i just took off the line farthese from me, and the gas shot out away from me, yippie

I've got it my eyes twice chaning them... man that burns

just do what has been posted earleir and you should be fine, I actually had to remove one of the bolts and loosen the other bolt that holds the fuel filter mounting braket to get mine off, as the lines were in the way to keep it from slideing out after loosening the clamp, but the whole process is not hard,

I also managed to get gas in my eyes when I rotated the bracket down with the filter in it, not a pleasant feeling
