What are some alternate tools to disconnect the existing filter?

Sawzall

I don't recommend that one though.

What do you mean by "alternate tools"?

Not sure what you mean by alternate tools? A fuel line tool is cheap. Just need that and a nut driver to undo the clamp.

Alternate tools and methods run the risk of damaging the spring lock that keeps the lines from popping offf the filter when under pressure. That’s the sort of thing that causes fires when it sprays on hot exhaust. Not worth the risk of not buying the proper tool

This fuel line set has pretty much everything to include the spreader pliers:

Amazon.com

I do not personally have the spreader pliers but I bet it would make a lot easier.

Most folks make do with this:

Amazon.com

This works alongside a fair amount of cussing.

I’ve gotten it done with the $10 Amazon set. Did my ac and fuel filter on my ‘00 with those. Didn’t have an issue
