can i take the key lock out of an 87 trunk and put it in my 88 hatch? the key does not lock unlock the hatch u put the key in and it just spins and my verts trunk works fine so could i just swap the parts out? about how hard is this? If i do this then ill end up changing the locks in the doors so i wont have 3 keys for my car and the door locks are easy to change.

If the hatch lock is anything like the door locks the fix should be easy. The door locks have a little plastic sprocket that turns with the key cylinder and pushes the rod the locks and unlocks the door. I had that happen on my driver door.
If it's nothing like the door locks then just use the other cylinder.
