Changing the KB's oil

How hard is it to change the oil in the KB? I don't change my own oil and I don't want to have my mechanic tell me it's going to cost like $100 to change my oil if I get a KB. I'm seriously considering a KB 6psi kit now and want to know about maintanence issues. I've done the research on the Vortech SQ but the KB has just always made me double think this. $4000 for the KB 6psi or $3,300 for the Vortech SQ...SQ more power...KB more fun.

ALso, does anyone out there have any KB 6psi vids?

I do not think one ever changes the KB internal oil. It is good for a lifetime and does not tap off the pan like centris.

It needs to be changed every 10-12k miles.It's really easy.I have actually read you can suck it out with the top part of a spray bottle.It only hold 5-6 oz of 5-50w syn oil.

A "life time" ? . If oil is needed, that means theres friction(or to keep it cool)... it sure as heck wont last forever.

Anywho, you cant change your own oil? I mean, not to sound mean or anything man...but if you dont have the ability to change your oil, then you really dont need the maintenance of having a S/C. You will also need to change your fuel filter every 10-15K also, and keep your air filters clean.

You do know how EASY it is right? I wouldnt even think of actually paying someone to do it .

I know changing oil is easy. I could do it if I wanted but choose not to. Paying $20 to have someone do it for me on the way to work in 10 minutes and disposing of the oil is much more appealing to me than getting the ****** on ramps and changing the oil and having to dispose of it myself.

Thanks for the response though. Maybe I'm not ready for a S/C...

^Well I just dont want to see you spend $100 on an oil change, if your really going to pay that . I just didnt know how mechanical you were ya know....some people dont know how to change their oil and thats what I was thinking lol.

If you stay with 6 PSI, you may be able to run that out to 20K fuel filter changes...just be sure the oil in your car is changed every 3-4K and it will last a long time. 6PSI should bring you to 330ish, and if you have a SAFE tune....the car will last a LONG time. I would also buy an A/F ratio gauge, when it starts to go leaner than say 12-1 then change your fuel filter. (if its sooner than 20K)

How bad is it on the "world" if say I decide to err personally "dispose" of my own oil? Anyone know about this? Sorry to jack.

One of my local mechanics heats his shop with an oil furnace and I just save all mine and give it to him to burn up. This is a win/win cause I get to dispose my oil for free and he gets free oil to burn. He also hooks me up on labor for the free fuel. I can give him ANY kind of oil...motor, tranny, rear end, etc. etc. pretty much anything but water or anti-freeze.

If you're running off well water and "dispose" of it in your yard then you will just end up drinking it. Lets ask Mr. Bird how he feels about it....

Here is a site that will tell you where you can drop off your old oil to be recycled..usually for free. Also, most service centers will take the oil for free.

I dunno about where you are from but most places that sell/change oil around here will take your waste oil for free. They usually have big tanks that you can just walk in and dump your used oil in. A better alternative environmentally then just dumping it down the drain or whatnot.

Changing the oil in a KB is a lot easier than changing the oil in your engine. I believe KB specifies every 12,000 miles.

I don't know where you guys are getting your information,.....

KB says to change the oil in their blower every 12,000 miles. It takes straight 50wt synthetic, not 5w50. Royal Purple is the only straight 50wt synthetic I've found so far.

You can suck the old stuff out the fill plug or drain it out the drain plug. Draining can be a mess. KB says to catch it in rags. Not much room to get a catch can in there.

Tops it's a 1/2 hour job.

Kenne Bell specifies Redline 50 weight synthetic race oil. I just bought 2 quarts for the local Summit Racing store in Atlanta.
