charging issue

so the other day my volt gauge dropped and the abs light came on, I limped it home where it died as I pulled in the driveway, my first instinct is the alternator, but, this only happens when the engine gets warm. Any chance of it being something else, Im going to test the alternator later this week but just wanted another opinion. Also, with the battery drained i tried to give it some gas to get on the freeway but it misfired like crazy.

Yeah deffinately get the alt. checked its easy enough to do. Did the Volt gauge drop all the way or just 4 Volts or so. This is usually what it does when the Alt. goes out. I would guess its an internal short.

the gauge hovers around 3-4 volts, and the abs light stays on and the tach dies.

Alternator - Makes sense that it happens when your engine gets warm. My guess is that it's on it's way out and sooner or later it'll start happening right away.
