You can get an entire rear end out of a turbo coupe. They came stock with those gears (I think in the following order):

Automatic = 3.73
Manual = 3.55

Search for Jrichker's name he has a good write up on this.

why? Its not just that I have 355s and love them, but there is barely a difference between the two.

Pretty sure Explorers came with 3.55's and 3.73's alike... a guy near me sells low mileage OEM gears for like $75, apparently he buys them from Ford dealerships for even less than that...

He was telling me that the dealers get people coming in every now and then complaining of their rear tires chirping around turns, which they percieve as a problem, although it's just because some trac-locs are put together a little tighter than others coming out of the factory. Long story short, it's cheaper for the dealers to just replace the entire diff assembly than to take it apart and adjust everything, so they'll sell the old pieces for next to nothing. I'd try visiting some Ford service departments and ask if they'll sell you one.

exploders, aerostars, earlier f150's (before they went to a sterling rr end) and 4.0l rangers........ not ALL of these have 8.8's, so make sure its a 10 bolt. you can also get the carrier from these, and MANY times they are 31 spline traction locks.......3.73's will be easier to find, and MANY aerostars have 4.10 LS diffs too........ very simple to pull em.
