cheap tailight housing resto

hi fellow mustangers have you got a classic mustang with dull tailights?I did too I've found a cheap fix for the tailight housing reflective surface.

I found a furnace duct tape (not the gray fabric type but an aluminum foil tape) works GREAT!it's super sticky stays to the galvanized metal has excellent reflectivity ands best of all a roll is about 7$ and does 3-4 cars. A quick pass with chrome polish helps it shine even more.The tape I used is made by intertape their web site is www.intertapepolymer.com (under hvac icon)the only draw back is that it's hard to place it on the curves of the housing without creating wrinkles.A little patience/practice helps.I'm rewiring my mustang with painless wiring kit and can't light up tailight bulbs yet but the surface is already way better than the gold cadmium finish left on the housing.I'll post back when I get the wiring up and working

for the price /time it worth it to try rather than buying repo housings

Funny , I have had that tape on my work bench for about 6 months now. Now by hearing you and your success, I will have to do it.

hi skirockp that's how I came across this fix ...tried "chrome" paints with no luck then I saw the tape on a hook by my work bench...seemed like a good thing to try....works great ... used autosol chrome polish to give it that extra shine.... love the cheap fixes we find on the mustang roads!!

In a past life as a 944 turbo owner, I used this tape to brighten the dash lights by covering the old reflective tunnels that house the dash pod lights. Worked great there too. I wonder if we can brighten the Mustang dash lights with it? Hmm.

Yep, I've been using this stuff for years now. Also, I switched to the LED lights and not only did it brighten up the back but took away that little "tick" down from my volt gauge every time I hit the brakes.
