Ok I redid all of the tests and this is what I got this time

Pin 48 to Ground Point = 5.75
Pin 20 to - Batt = 6.5
Pin 40 to - Batt = 5.8
Pin 60 to - Batt = 5.8

Pin 26 to 46 with KOEO (computer in) = 4.35
Pin 46 (Self Test Connector) to Ground Point (computer in) = .4
Pin 46 (Self Test Connector) to - Batt (computer in) = .6

Pin 46 (Self Test Connector) to Ground Point (computer out) = OL
Pin 46 (Self Test Connector) to - Batt (computer out) = OL

Pin 40 to Ground Point from computer plug= 0.1
Pin 60 to Ground Point from computer plug= 0.1
Pin 46 to Ground Point from computer plug= OL

Pin 46 to 40 in computer plug= OL
Pin 46 to 60 in computer plug= OL

Pin 1 with KOEO computer out= 12.08
Pin 37 with KOEO computer out= 12.08
Pin 57 with KOEO computer out= 12.08

Hopefully I did them all right this time, This is the first time I try to chase wires.
Thanks to all that have tried to help.

How do I test the Neutral safety circuit failure code 67, to see if the switch is bad, because it looks like that could be the cause of the problem? Pin 46 which appears to be the wire causing the problems ends at the Neutral switch. I can not find any breaks in 46 going anywhere.

Thanks

If the switch was not working, you would likely have issues retrieving KOER codes.

The switch itself is about inaccessible IIRC. You can check Pin 30 at the EEC however.

Otherwise, You'd be better off testing the wiring a little ways from the switch to see what's going on with the switch itself (to try and ascertain if it's closing or not). As I recall, the circuit simply grounds when in neutral (check your manual or search to confirm this).

I have not been able to pull any KOER codes, and this is an auto trans.

The reason I am suspecting the switch is I get that code 67 and 85 when doing a KOEO test and in the wiring diagram you gave me the link to Pin 46 goes to that switch as well as the other sensors that i got codes for after I drove the car.
But I would like to test the wiring/switch before just buying a new one. The car will only start in P or N. What do I check pin 30 for?

Thanks

Ok I could not find anything breaks/cuts with the wiring anywhere.
I just drove the car and the check engine light came on.
These are the codes I just pulled.

KOEO codes
67 = Neutral safety circuit failure (Car starts only in Park or Neutral)
85 = Canister Purge Solenoid circuit failure (Not installed)

Codes from Continues Memory
33 = EGR valve opening not detected.
41 = HEGO sensor circuit indicates system lean (right side). New less than 300 miles.
91 = No HEGO switching detected always lean (left side). New less than 300 miles.

Could the EGR be causing the HEGO codes? Is there a way to test the EGR valve. I have cleaned it thoroughly.

Thanks for all the responses.

Ok finally an update after pulling and tugging on every ground wire I finally found the one that connects behind the heads to be broken inside the the insulation and repaired it and grounded it to the firewall. I cleared the computer and also installed an EGR simulator and disconnected the vaccum from the EGR valve.

I ran the car to operating temp and got these codes.

KOEO
67 = Neutral safety circuit failure (Car starts only in Park or Neutral, AC is not installed either.)
85 = Canister Purge Solenoid circuit failure (Not installed)

CM
33 = EGR valve opening not detected.(Supposed to be what the EGR simulator does)
28 - Loss of IDM, right side.

Anyone have any suggestions for the IDM code? Thanks for the help.

Not sure but i have studied your post and i think your pcm harness combo is wrong.hisson is the rocket scientest here so he can put together this.i c harness 12A581 BC for auto CD for stick. 60 pin for 2.3 different than 5.0 MA .all his codes fall into differences maybe ck their

I'm with Hotcobra03 here. Are we sure we're really generating a code 28? It's only for 2.3L engines IIRC. If so, I'm not sure an A9* EEC can even do that one.

The 2.3's had dual plugs IIRC. 5.0's only have one IDM in the first place.

The car was a 4 cylinder to V8 conversion, I used a computer hanress from an 89, an engine harness from an 89 also. The problem started when the check engine light came on after driving it about 20 mins I took it to a shop down the road they could not get their scanner to pull any codes. So I switched out the EEC from my 89 vert which did throw codes and still had the same problem. Turns out I had broken ground wire (broken in the insulation) that was connected to the head so I repaired that wire and grounded it to the firewall, cleared all codes installed a EGR eliminator plug, capped the vaccum line, and got it up to operating temp again and came up with these codes yesterday. And the car also has AOD.

I will clear the computer again today and drive it and pull the codes again to make sure I got the right codes.

Thanks for all the help electrical is never been my strong point.

On 60 pin connector if you have the proper harness the wire color and pin number should be the same .pin 20.40.60 all match but a couple dont. Look at pin 2 what is thier.pin 6?9? 13,14,15?19? Start with that

HISSIN50, hotcobra03 you are both correct I miss counted when reading the flashes and it IS NOT a code 28.

KOEO
67 = Neutral safety circuit failure (Car starts only in Park or Neutral, AC is not installed either.)
85 = Canister Purge Solenoid circuit failure (Not installed)

CM
33 = EGR valve opening not detected.(Supposed to be what the EGR simulator does)
29 - Insufficient input from vehicle speed sensor. (Probably explains why the cruise control does not work)

Now if I can figure out why I get a 67, if the AC pressure switch is not installed/plugged in could that give the code?

Again Thanks for all the help.

Ok code 67 is tricky .ford shows pin test FA code 67 you need engine id .3 reasons . I need to know color of pin 30? The only tie i can c is pin 46 to start from or you have the wrong harness .just ck all those colors i really like the challange

If your parts were used and you were not the one who removed the harness than .f150 and e models came with 5.0 and both have different 60 pin ?

hotcobra03, I just checked all the colors for the pins you mentioned and they are as follows:

2 - nothing there
3 - green/white stripe
6 - orange/yellow stripe
13 - brown/blue stripe
14 - tan/blue stripe
15 - green
19 - pink/black stripe
20 - black
30 - looks purple/yellow stripe
40 - black/green stripe
60 - black/green stripe

This is the wiring diagram I have been using and everything seems to match up fine.

Thanks for the time and help.

Guess I will clear the codes again and go take it for a drive then check them again.
The ac switch is turned off and I do not any ac components installed under the hood at all. Could the ac pressure switch not being installed be causing the code 67?

Thanks for the time and help.

Ok cleared all the codes drove the car and just pulled the codes again :

KOEO
67 = Neutral safety circuit failure (Car starts only in Park or Neutral, AC is not installed either, switch is in OFF position.)
85 = Canister Purge Solenoid circuit failure (Not installed)

CM
33 = EGR valve opening not detected.(Supposed to be what the EGR simulator does)

67 is the only one I am really concerned with right now, because as stated the CANP is not installed and the 33 has an EGR eliminator plugged into harness.

And to get the cruise working if I can.

Thanks for the time and help.
