the check engine light just came on on my car. the engine and everything else sounds fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I had it into the shop 2 weeks ago. it was given a once over and had the fuel filter changed. the tranny (4r70w) is going, but it had a tuneup and has been ok, only an ocassional grinding since. are there any usual stupid things to check before I bring it in to the shop? It did seem to be a little hotter then normal when I lifted the hood, but the temp gauge didn't support this. any help would be much appreciated
thanks-matt

take it to autozone and have the codes scanned for free. it could be an O2 sensor

Even having low windsheild wiper fluid can set them off... I would check all your fluids.

Yea it happens.. my mom was driving along in her v6 and bam! the light came on. She didn't delay and go to the dealer right away. I forgot what the problem was, but it was an easy fix.. I wasn't there when that happened.

Get in teh zone.. Au-to zone

He said that he has a 97 all that gass cap loose and windsheild fluid low stuff wasn't for a 97 was it? I didn't think that Ford put all that stuff on till 99+?

This just happened to me a few weeks ago -- i disconnected the battery to reset to computor, and the light has been off ever since with no problems.

It could be anything...from loose gas cap to a O2 sensor. Just get the computer scanned and post the codes. We might be able to help then.

it went off after driving about 15 miles or so the next day. I checked the coolant and it was a little low, so I topped it off. Its still off so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
thanks
