My check oil idiot light keeps coming on....my car has oil pressure (gauge says its ok) and plenty of oil. The car seems to run fine. Im thinking its the sender for the gauge and I should replace it....is it the thing thats screwed into the side of my oil pan? Also, how do you check to see if you oil pump is working ok other than looking at the stock gauge? Thanks.

I wonder if the OP gauge and Low oil level light are being confused.

We have a low level light. We have a OP gauge.

If you say the OP gauge reads fine, it sounds like the sender for said gauge is ok.

Your oil level switch might have come apart or it might have a build up of crud on the contacts.

Good luck.

The sender for the low oil light is on the driver side of the pan on mine. It has a couple wires coming out of it (it is a large sender - it takes like a 20mm bolt to plug the hole). LRS sells new sending units for the low oil light.

Good luck.

the low oil light comes on when the sensor isnt covered with oil. if you park on a steep incline and are a little low(half quart +) your light will come on or you have a bad sensor. yes... the thing in the side of the pan. the only real way to check oil pressure is with a manual guage.
