What are you checking? Coil or plugs?

For the coil, use some pliars with rubber grips and hold it above the dist. cap where it plugs into and have someone spin the car over and look for the spark.

Same way for the plugs, pull the wire off of the dist cap, hold it above and check for spark.

What's the car doing?

i have spark from the coil and plug number #1 ( i stoped after #1 zapped me). im pretty sure i have fuel, i can hear the pump. what should i check next. when i did my intake swap months ago even though my timing was way off the car still at least started after stabing the dizzy. i am going to restab the dizzy later on maybe tomorrow because i moved it from TDC when trying earlier. i dont feel like going out there right now, but what should i look at next. i was thinking maybe the valvetrain. i used the stock rockers with stock pushrods. could they be bolted down too tight or maybe its the dizzy and timing?

If you used the stock rockers and pushrods you might need to check your valvetrain like you said. The rockers are probably holding the valves open a little bit if you just threw them on and tightened them down. I forgot how to adjust pedistal mount rockers, but I believe you have to use shims under them until you get them adjusted right.. I think its supposed to be a 0 lash? I've only adjusted stud mount rockers before so I'm probably not much help.

When you spin the car over, does it sound like there isnt any compression? Like its spinning a lot faster than it normally did.

i hear compression after i try to start it

i called dbeck and he gave me some good info. he was original going to help last weekend but he got tied up. basicly the first time i tried to start the car it was still on tdc. i need to get the dizzy back to tdc and then remove the coil from the dizzy and bump the engine a tiny bit so its not on zero on the balancer like when i tryed to start the first time. i have to work tomorow so i will try it maybe tomorow or dbeck said he doesnt mind giving me a hand this weekend. we will see how it goes.
