I agree. I guess in some cases it's not what you can do but what you can afford. A well built ford goes for a lot more dollars than a dime a dozen chevy motor where I live. But yes it's sacrilege!

The old joke around car shows among the Ford guys around here is that whenever there was some old Ford car or truck with a SBC in it, it was because the guy "ran out of money to finish the car right"

I have never understood what the point is of putting a Chevy motor in a Ford. Ford motors are every bit as good as the Chevy motor. Maybe an LSx motor runs stronger stock, but they arent the be-all end-all of engines.

I lose a little bit of respect for a car and its builder when I see what I consider to be cut corners in the form of a SBC in a Ford.

Mostly just begs the question, "Why?" Were they out of Chevys? I mean, its his car, do whatever you want, but, if you have that kind of time, and $ to waste, maybe a new hobby is in order. Maybe inventing something that fits under the hood, and moves the car, but not powered by gasoline, would be a better use of his apparently limitless resources. And actually useful. And good luck selling it. Is there a warantee, something every Chevy owner really needs?

i dont think its that much more of a project than doing a 4 banger/5.0 swap.

I hope these people mod their mustangs with nothing but Ford Motorsports parts. Anything aftermarket wouldn't be Ford. That's against the rules!

This is the same type of response the guys with chevy powered mustangs give at the track. Yet no matter how fast it is, we laugh at them the whole time.

If you have the time and money to put an LS1 into a mustang, you have the time and money to build a 347. This means that you are doing it to be different and you want to "GO AGAINST THE GRAIN YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAW!" and as we all learned in highschool, people who are different get laughed at.

I just don't know why one would expend the effort to do this sort of project- Strype is right, its just like in high school, you'll have people who need to be the center of attention, weather its good attention or not, they scream "Look at me!" with the retarded things they do. Maybe the guy just needs a hug. Go on, all you non- brand loyalist, give him a hug. But I'm just gonna laugh, walk away, cuz its his car, and I'll forget about him as soon as he's gone home with his car, to fix it, again. Its just an engine- LS1- whatever. It ain't better than what I use, no matter how fast it goes, it just an engine.

Brand loyalism would be ONLY buying or driving ONE brand of car FOREVER and nothing else. Crossing brands within one vehicle is something totally different.

There has long been a battle between Ford, Chevy and Mopar since the beginning of motoring, and especially since the muscle car era of the 60's, this concept of brand competition that we are discussing is not something new. There are preferences that people have, and will always have. Call it narrow minded if you want...is it narrow minded to have a favorite baseball or football team and hate their rival? You may respect certian players for the way they perform but overall you don't like the team, either simply because they are your teams rival or even for other reasons of your own...same principle.

I just can't see what the point is of spending all the time and effort to do this kind of a swap, when all Ford resources are available to make the same performance with a whole lot less trouble. I can understand better why someone would put an LSx in an RX7 or any of those other import-type cars on the first page, because that kind of performance isnt feasible using factory-type parts in those vehicles, at least not at the same price. It is a generally understood fact that it costs more to go just as fast in many of those cars. Not saying it really makes sense to create all that work for yourself, but I can grasp the concept a little better.

It really begs the question, again, of WHY? Yes we all know the Mustang is a great platform to make a drag car out of, and that is what most of these LSx swapped ones seem to be. We also know that Ford engines are capable of EXCELLENT performance, proven time and time again. We also know that even an 80's F-Body, a Malibu, Monte Carlo, etc. ALL make great drag cars as well...and probably for a cheaper overall build cost than putting an engine that doesn't belong into a Mustang.

Yeah yeah yeah, to each his own yadda yadda yadda...Some people like a crazy project and all that nonsense, there are just some lines that aren't crossed...at least not without some sort of response...Brand lines are nearly sacred in the car world...maybe not as much as they once were, but at least understand why people like us care when bastardized versions of the cars we know, love and respect so much come around...

I knew someone would bring this up- but I think its a stretch from the point of the argument. Sure, aftermarket companies like Trickflow, BBK, or Edelbrock make application-specific parts for Ford, GM, Mopar, Honda, etc, but you could also argue that OEM parts may get sourced from the same vendors for different makes of vehicles. Brake calipers, transmissions, suspension parts, all can be found across the scale. T5s were available in how many different cars? And the Australian company that made the brakes for Cobras I believe also made brakes for the F Body cars. Its splitting hairs though, because that's just how the market works and how people make money. In my eyes, though, it still doesn't make sense to directly mix breeds. I'm more anal than others (I filed/painted the "Cobra" text off my brake calipers simply because my car isn't a Cobra ), but cross-brand engine swaps I think are the highest form of automotive blasphemy.

Eh, I think you give them too much credit. They really aren't being that different. The LSx motors are just the next generation of SBCs, and how many SBCs do you see in old Fords at car shows? All these LSx swap guys have a chip on their shoulder thinking they've broke the mold, but they really haven't.
