Choose my muffler :)

***I have already read the sticky SO DON'T TELL ME TO READ IT!!***

Ok I have a 94 GT bone stock. I am planing on getting a a "cat-back" exhaust. It will be catless with a o/r H or X pipe don't know yet. 2.5 inch pipes with 3 inch tips maybe 2.5 not sure yet. I have been looking around and listening and I can't decide on a muffler. Here's what I'm looking for:
1) Deep, throaty sound
2) Fairly loud at idle, GOOD rumble
3) No popping on decel from punching the throttle in nuetral, I think that has to do with it being an X or H mid pipe.
4) A muffler with little or no drone would be nice, but it's not a must.

If anyone has this set up and has exhaust clips, or knows of a muffler that will fit my need please let me know!!

I like any muffler that is straight through and packed. These include, Borla, Dynomax, Bassani, Magnaflow, etc. These mufflers are quiet at idle yet really open up when you floor it.

yea, i also need to find a muffler that doens't pop when i decelerate. I just have an o/r H with stock c/b and if i rev up and let off it pops sort of embarassing lol. I'm also looking at some nice mufflers to keep the sound as deep as possible.

edit: the two i find most appealing are MAC FlowPaths or Magnaflows (not Magnapacks)

Check out my sig...its gonna be tough for someone to tell ya. Best way is to try to hear them in person. Anyway, my votes are the following:

1.) Spintech Sportsmans
2.) Bassani
3.) 40 series Flows(3rd only cause they are so damn popular)

With my 351w, long tubes, flowmaster 3" d-pipe and sportsmans dumped...i love it. Couldnt ask for anything better. It drones at 1700rpm so its not while cruising on the highway, more like accelerating through the gears. But i hope to fix that this spring

1. Chambered mufflers for the classic muscle car sound. Only with an H-pipe, however.
2. Straight-through muffler if you go with an X-pipe
3. Get high flow cats -- catless stinks.
4. Popping has to do with mixture, not exhaust design.

i've also heard great things about spintech sportsmens, i just have alot of trouble finding them. Do they only come as weld in mufflers? Or can you purchase a catback kit from spintech?

You can get them both ways....I bought mine with flo-tubes welded on, this way thet connect right to your cats or whatever mid-pipe you have...much easier..
I didn't but tails from them as they only had 3" and I wasnt going there...plus they were big money...

they connected right to my prochamber and the hangers on the mufflers lines right up with the factory ones...

I run a catted aftermarket H and Flowpath catback - I freakin love the sound (nice burble).

As Dave said, the pops come from when you get off the gas (decelerating in gear or shifting) and the throttle blade closes. The system goes rich since not much air is able to flow. A more muffled system does help with the pops though (I notice a difference in the other cars with even the addition of a cat acting as a muffler vs when I dont have the cat installed).

Andy, where did you get the tubes to connect them right to your midpipe? I like that (I considered finding a system in a boneyard and cannibalizing it to accomplish this). Great idea Andy!

hey hissin, could you give me the MAC part # for the flowpaths for a 94-95 5 spd coupe. I've been looking @ mac exhaust but it doens't say wether it's flowpath or not. Are flowpaths the only mufflers mac uses?

I bought em that way versus just the mufflers and having to do that myself..

Most people don't like drone ... but you do. You want rumble at idle as well. Sounds like you're wanting an O/R H-pipe and 40 series flows. That's what I have and I love it. (I'm not recommending it because I have them ... but based on what you're looking for.) Actually, you'll probaby be satisfied with any popular chambered muffler with an O/R H-pipe. My .02.

95GTV, I would love to give ya info but I didnt buy the catback new. I think Chris (Cman) might have just got and put a new MAC cat-back on his ride - he might have some part numbers and info.

JT, were you referring to flow tubes? If so, some small exhaust shops make them and stock them for use. I just went to a buddy's shop & chatted with him for a while .... and ended up getting a set for free.

Justin, sweet man (I saw Andy refer to them as flow tubes, but I havent used the term before so I didnt want to ask about flowtubes and actually be talkin about something else. ).

That's a cool idea. I have no exhaust shop connections but I will call around (I have some new-to-me Flowmasters coming my way for the other stang).

nah....a healthy 351w, long tubes, off road pipe, plus dumps = wayyyy to loud with prostreets IMO. Sportsmans dumped are ALMOST too loud...but not quite. Prostreets might be cool with tail pipes. I think u need to get some clips up
