I may be replacing my valve covers and was wondering the pros/cons where to chrome as opposed to polished alum. I have Edelbrock Elites now and have found them a pain to keep looking great, mostly because of the ribs in them. This time I'll get plain covers. I think chrome has a higher luster and may be easier to keep but have concerns about rust. My car is garaged w/ a dehumidifier but I do live at the beach so rust is a problem here. Any info/comments would be helpful. Thanks.

Thinking about either one of these:

Hi,
I'm thinking those chrome would, probably, work well in the engine compartment, There is always "oily" fumes around to help retard rust. However, "when you play, you have to pay." This means, there is a certain level of your participating in an occasional clean-up. You can't add this stuff and forget it. Aluminum will age and discolor. I have an Eddy Performer RPM that I had powder coated for this reason.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Poppy. I've got no problem keeping things pretty clean under the hood but the covers I have now are a lot more difficult than plan topped ones like those 2. I'm also considering these.

I like the look of the fabbed covers and these have baffles which many do not.

the stamped steel covers look cheap.Get the aluminum and the have them chromed.I have the Ford Motorsport covers and the aluminum they used does not polish well so i had them chromed about 14 years ago.they have never peeled or discolored.Little glass cleaner and they are done.

Hi,
Those look pretty nice. They appear, to be the "tall" version, so. should clear any current or future roller rocker install.
Good Luck!

chrome is easier to keep clean than polished aluminum, but the aluminum dissipates heat better than chrome does. i do agree though with getting the aluminum covers and chrome them if you want chrome. personally i would go with crinkle black covers instead.
