Old fashion turtle wax chrome polish, then mothers metal polish, then coat with mothers wax.

Not much you can do at that stage, those are pretty much gone. It's just a matter of time before the whole wheel rots through creating air leaks.
Once the water gets under the coating. .it's game over.

The drinking kind is no fun! I wouldn't know about the other either though lol. I've heard that works I ve never tried it before. I have a small spot on my rims that needs some tlc.
